  • Patent number: 7682830
Abstract: A product shelf life monitoring system comprises a label substrate bearing upon a limited portion of its area an active indicator composition responsive to varying temperature over time to effect a visible change in color density or the like. The susceptibility of the indicator composition to similarly respond to incidence of vagrant ultraviolet light is ameliorated by application of an area of ultraviolet light absorbent composition in register above the indicator composition and extending at most only slightly beyond the periphery of the area of indicator composition. In this manner, the remaining area of the label is preserved for ultraviolet light responsive implementations, and only a minimal, economical amount of ultraviolet light absorbent composition is expended.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 10, 2003
Date of Patent: March 23, 2010
    Assignee: Temptime Corporation
Inventors: Thaddeus Prusik, Allan P. Piechowski

  • Patent number: 6706537
Abstract: A sterilization monitor includes a substrate and an monitor composition. The monitor composition contains a colorant and a halogen source and undergoes a distinct color change when exposed to a peracid. The sterilization monitor can be used to monitor a sterilization process involving a peracid. A sterilization monitoring device, including a sterilization monitor enclosed in a housing having a vapor permeable barrier, can also be used to monitor a sterilization process.

  • Patent number: 6544925
Abstract: An activatable time-temperature indicator system useful in tracking the thermal exposure history of a temperature-sensitive perishable product and providing a visually-distinct signal, such as a change in color density, at the expiration of a predetermined time-temperature integral comprises a first element, such as a direct thermal printing label (11), comprising a composition (13) having at least a first co-reactant of a color-forming reaction. A second, activator element, such as an adhesive tab (21) capable of being affixed to the label element, comprises an activator component (25), such as a second co-reactant of the color-forming reaction or a solubilizing agent for prompting the interaction of the co-reactants of the label composition. The activator tab element is affixed to the label composition to activate for reaction at ambient conditions the normally high-temperature color-forming composition (13) of the label at about the same time as the label is affixed to the perishable product.

  • Patent number: 5391459
Abstract: Novel compounds have been discovered that are particularly effective as nucleation accelerators or boosters when employed with hydrazide nucleators in the formulation of silver halide emulsions for lithographic film. The novel compounds contain bis ureido groups joined by an alkyleneoxy moiety or recurring alkyleneoxy moieties. The 2-nitrogen of each ureido group can carry groups comprising hydrogen, aryl, alkyl or dialkylaminoalkyl, alike or different.

  • Patent number: 5244772
Abstract: The present invention features a negative-type, silver halide photographic emulsion containing hydrazides that has reduced scratch sensitivity (i.e., the emulsion will have a reduced tendency to develop black scratches on non-exposed areas). The emulsion will resist developing black scratches due to the introduction to the emulsion of hydroquinone and ascorbate. The stability of the emulsion is further enhanced by the addition of sodium formaldehyde bisulfite.
