  • Publication number: 20070243630
Abstract: This invention provides solid phase specific binding lateral flow assay methods, devices and kits for quantitating high and low molecular weight analytes. The methods and devices of the invention employ labelled reagents which are either analyte analogs or complementary specific binding pair members for the analyte and a novel arrangement of capture zones comprising immobilized specific binding substances for either the analyte or the labelled reagent to effect bound from unbound labelled reagent as a function of analyte concentration. The capture zones are disposed on a non-bibulous matrix defining a flow path from a sample receiving zone to the capture zone. The devices of this invention also include multilane flow paths and multiple capture zones to quantitate analyte.

  • Publication number: 20070179373
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for collecting a fluid sample using an integrated collection device are disclosed. The integrated collection device includes an analyte detector and a gradient means to actively and rapidly drive the transport of a sample fluid from the point of contact to the point of detection and reading. The analyte detector can include a visually-read colorimetric detector using a chemical or enzymatic detection process. The gradient means can include physical and/or chemical processes as described in more detail herein. In some embodiments, the device is provided as an occlusive patch. Preferably, the test device provides a reading immediately upon fluid contact with the analyte detector. Consequently, the time-to-result is sample volume and transport time dependent. By providing immediate or nearly immediate reading of results, the device is particularly useful in those applications in which immediate results are advantageous.

  • Publication number: 20060034935
Abstract: The inventive material is a unique family of externally used wound sealants based upon a binding agent of reactive submicron silica particles that, when hydrated, agglomerate in the form of a supramolecular cross-linked network serving as the structural framework facilitating clot formation. A thrombolytic cascade accelerant can be provided, optionally with additional clotting factors, to further accelerate the clotting process.

  • Publication number: 20010023324
Abstract: A non-invasive glucose monitoring device includes a mechanism for stimulating salivary glands secretion of saliva into oral fluid prior to collecting a sample of the oral fluid. A mechanism is provided for detecting the amount of glucose in the sample, a mechanism also being provided for quantitating blood glucose level based on the amount of glucose detected. A method of non-invasively monitoring glucose includes the steps of stimulating salivary glands secretion of saliva into oral fluid, collecting a sample of the oral fluid, detecting an amount of glucose in the sample, and then quantitating the blood glucose level based on the amount of glucose detected. These methods and devices are used to diagnosis individuals with glucose levels that indicate a diabetic disease state. The present invention is also usable to monitor the blood glucose levels of subjects who are being treated for diabetes.

  • Patent number: 5939331
Abstract: A method and device for detecting the presence, absence or amount of an analyte in a whole blood sample is disclosed. The device comprises four zones, a sample receiving zone, a labeling zone, a capture zone and an absorbent zone. The sample receiving zone contains an irreversibly immobilized reagent that allows for removal of substantially all red blood cells from the whole blood sample. Flow through the device is via capillary migration and all of the dissolved or dispersed components in the sample flow at substantially equal rates and with relatively unimpaired flow through the device. The method involves the use of the device for detection of analyte in a whole blood sample.
