  • Patent number: 6952143
Abstract: A transition for transmitting a mm-wave signal from one plane to another, the transition comprising: (a) first and second transmission lines on parallel planes; (b) a third transmission line orthogonal to the first and second transmission lines, wherein either the first and second transmission lines are suitable for transmitting a TEM mode signal and the third transmission line is suitable for transmitting a waveguide mode signal, or the third transmission line is suitable for transmitting a TEM mode signal and the first and second transmission lines are suitable for transmitting a waveguide mode signal; and (c) first and second transducers, the first transducer coupled between the first and third transmission lines, the second transducer coupled between the second and third transmission lines, each of the transducers suitable for converting a TEM mode signal to a waveguide mode signal.

  • Patent number: 5556748
Abstract: The invention is directed to a sandwich hybridization assay wherein a nucleic acid capture probe is firstly immobilized on an assay plate via masked receptors on the plate. The capture probe is immobilized by the binding of receptor ligands on the capture probe during this first step. Subsequently, target nucleic acid is hybridized to the immobilized capture probe either before or after the hybridization of an indicator nucleic acid probe onto the target. The target is quantified via detection of the immobilized indicator signal.

  • Patent number: 4748289
Abstract: A process and apparatus for converting light hydrocarbons, such as waste organic solvents, to a useful fuel having a high flash point. A mixture of light hydrocarbon and heavy oil, wherein the ratio of light hydrocarbon to heavy oil preferably lies in the range from about 10:1 to about 1:4, is forced at a pressure of preferably at least about 500 psi through a porous substrate having a catalytically effective amount of an active oxide of hexavalent group 6b metal, such as chromium, thereon. The porous substrate may comprise a sintered powder stainless steel material having an average pore size in the range from about 20 to about 2000 microns. The catalyst is prepared by wetting the porous substrate with a solution of a salt of the group 6b metal and heating the wetted substrate until a catalytically active oxide of hexavalent group 6b metal is formed thereon.
