  • Patent number: 8460306
Abstract: A clip for retaining a screw on a tip of a screwdriver shaft. The clip comprises a housing that has a first end and a second end and a longitudinal axis extending therebetween. The housing includes a longitudinal bore that is accessible from both the first and second ends of the housing. A pair of jaw members is provided on the housing proximate the first end thereof. The jaw members surround a first portion of the bore and are configured to capture and retain a length of the screwdriver shaft therebetween. A pair of clamping members is formed on the housing proximate the second end thereof. The clamping members surround a second portion of the bore and are configured to capture a head of the surgical screw therebetween. During use, the screwdriver shaft is pushed downwardly and twisted slightly within the bore to engage the head of the screw. The screw is threadably engaged in a pre-drilled hole in the patient's bone.

  • Patent number: 8282395
Abstract: An abutment clip for use in a dental implant system for orienting an abutment relative to features on a patient's teeth and jawbone so that a prosthesis, which is attachable to the abutment, will be correctly oriented. The abutment clip comprises a housing that includes a chamber sized to receive the abutment therein. The housing has at least one position indicator provided at one end thereof. The dentist engages the abutment clip over the abutment when it is still attached to a manufacturer's plaster model. He notes the position of the indicator on the housing in reference to features on the model and then detaches the abutment clip, abutment and abutment screw as a unit from the model. The combined abutment clip, abutment and screw are then positioned on an implant post in the patient's jaw bone and the position indicator is used to verify the orientation of the abutment before it is secured to the implant post.

  • Publication number: 20070287127
Abstract: A retention system connects a dental instrument to a dental component and maintains contact between them during installation of the latter in the oral cavity. The instrument includes a shaft having a shaped driver bit at one end. The dental component includes a head configured to be engaged by the driver bit, a shank that extending outwardly away from the head and a plurality of threads thereon. In a first embodiment, the system includes a clip that is frictionally engaged with the shaft of the instrument and snap fitted to the head of the dental component. In a second embodiment, the system includes a vacuum source operationally connected to a passageway in the dental instrument. A vacuum is generated at the driver bit tip which retains the dental component on the instrument.
