  • Publication number: 20150294120
Abstract: A method, apparatus and computer program product for policy-based access control in association with a sorted, distributed key-value data store in which keys comprise n-tuple structure that includes a cell-level access control. In this approach, an information security policy is used to create a set of pluggable policies. A pluggable policy may be used during data ingest time, when data is being ingested into the data store, and a pluggable policy may be used during query time, when a query to the data store is received for processing against data stored therein. Generally, a pluggable policy associates one or more user-centric attributes (or some function thereof), to a particular data-centric label. By using pluggable policies, preferably at both ingest time and query time, the data store is enhanced to provide a seamless and secure policy-based access control mechanism in association with the cell-level access control enabled by the data store.

  • Publication number: 20150293784
Abstract: Mechanisms are provided for scheduling execution of pre-execution operations of an annotator of a question and answer (QA) system pipeline. A model is used to represent a system of annotators of the QA system pipeline, where the model represents each annotator as a node having one or more performance parameters indicating a performance of an execution of an annotator corresponding to the node. For each annotator in a set of annotators of the system of annotators, an effective response time for the annotator is calculated based on the performance parameters. A pre-execution start interval for a first annotator based on an effective response time of a second annotator is calculated where execution of the first annotator is sequentially after execution of the second annotator. Execution of pre-execution operations associated with the first annotator is scheduled based on the calculated pre-execution start interval for the first annotator.

  • Publication number: 20150294190
Abstract: Disclosed is a computer implemented method for identifying a component tile within a target image. The method receives a plurality of distinct component tiles and overlays the plurality of component tiles to form an overlaid image. The overlaying is based on an embedded parameter value for each component tile. The method compares the target image with the overlayed image to determine a matching parameter value, and identifies a component tile within the target image by determining that the embedded parameter value of the component tile is the closest of the embedded parameter values to the matching parameter value.

  • Publication number: 20150290764
Abstract: A method and system for observing and monitoring thermal characteristics of a machining operation, such as a surface finishing operation, performed on a workpiece is disclosed. The surface finishing operation can be performed on the workpiece in order to remove a surface defect, e.g. a parting line, on a surface of the workpiece and/or to provide a mirror-like finish to the workpiece. In one embodiment, an emissive layer is applied to the workpiece to increase a thermal emissivity of the workpiece. In some embodiments, a finishing surface, such as a polishing or buffing wheel, and/or a lubricant used in a finishing operation is monitored. A thermal profile of the surface of the workpiece, finishing surface and/or lubricant can be obtained. The finishing operation can be modified in response to the monitored thermal characteristics to prevent the occurrence of defects and improve the efficacy of the finishing operation.

  • Publication number: 20150289479
Abstract: Acoustic tags have been used for years in fisheries research to study survival and behavior of fish in various aquatic environments. The described techniques, devices and systems enhance the ability of researchers to understand the effect on fish (or other animal's) mortality by predators through an acoustic tag that includes a digestible fuse. When the implanted acoustic tag comes in contact with the digestive fluids in a predator's stomach, the fuse coating is dissolved causing the fuse to disintegrate and result in an open circuit. The open circuit in turn signals the electronics in the acoustic tag that the tagged animal has been consumed. In response, the electronics alter the tag transmit signal to indicate that predation has occurred.
