Patent number: 9518359Abstract: The invention provides a doctor blade holder system that includes a doctor blade support structure, an adjustment profiling plate, and a series of adjustment mechanisms. The doctor blade support structure includes an elongated slot for receiving a doctor blade and a separate elongated slot to house mounting hardware. The adjustable profiling plate causes pressure to be applied to the working blade in a continuous manner along the length of the working blade, wherein the profiling plate is mounted to a holder mounting plate with a series of pairs of mounting structures allowing unconstrained flexure, or rotation, of the profiling plate with respect to holder mounting plate around two axes. The series of adjustment mechanisms attach to the holder mounting plate and acting on the profiling plate, wherein the adjustment mechanisms are capable of displacing the profiling plate in a bi-directional manner.Type: GrantFiled: November 6, 2014Date of Patent: December 13, 2016Assignee: Kadant, Inc.Inventors: Allen Brauns, David Leeman, Robert Johnson

Publication number: 20060225589Abstract: A reciprocating doctor is provided for doctoring the cylindrical surface of a roll rotating about a first axis. The doctor includes a doctor back with a blade holder carrying a doctor blade. The doctor back has journals aligned on a second axis parallel to the first rotational axis of the roll. The journals are rotatably supported in sleeve bearings, and the sleeve bearings are in turn supported by diaphragms spaced along the second axis. The sleeve bearings are fixed axially on their respective journals, and the diaphragms have hub portions surrounding and fixed relative to the sleeve bearings, and peripheral portions surrounding the hub portions and fixed relative to a support structure. The diaphragms are configured to resiliently accommodate reciprocating movement of their hub portions and associated sleeve bearings relative to their peripheral portions and associated support structure.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 7, 2005Publication date: October 12, 2006Inventors: Robert Johnson, Robert Reid, Allen Brauns

Patent number: 6328853Abstract: A doctor apparatus comprises a base adapted to be fixed to a doctor back and having a shelf projecting forwardly therefrom. A compliant top plate overlies the forwardly projecting shelf. The top plate has a rear portion fixed with respect to the base, and a front portion projecting forwardly beyond the shelf. Mutually spaced blade support members are secured to the underside of the front portion of the top plate. The blade support members have front portions underlying and cooperating in spaced relationship with the underside of the front portion of the top plate to define mutually aligned receiving slots, and have rear portions underlying and cooperating in spaced relationship with the shelf to define mutually aligned recesses. A doctor blade has a rear portion removably retained in the receiving slots, and a front portion projecting forwardly beyond the top plate. A resilient element is confined in the recesses between the shelf and the rear portions of the blade support members.Type: GrantFiled: January 24, 2000Date of Patent: December 11, 2001Assignee: Thermo Web Systems, Inc.Inventors: Ronald F.
