  • Patent number: 8282122
Abstract: An airbag assembly for a motor vehicle is disclosed having an airbag 110 that is inflated by an inflator when the airbag 110 is deployed in accordance with a control signal from an electronic controller. The airbag 110 has a main chamber 114 and at least one subsidiary chamber 116 fluidly connected to the main chamber 114 by a transfer vent 117. The main and subsidiary chambers 114 and 116 are vented to atmosphere by respective vents 115, 118 and the pressure in the subsidiary chamber 116 is arranged to be equal to or lower than the pressure in the main chamber 114. The subsidiary chamber 116 is produced in a simple manner by forming a depression in the main chamber 114 using a tether 124 and covering the depression so formed with a cover 125.

  • Patent number: 6135488
Abstract: The present invention relates to a gas bag for a vehicular restraint system, comprising a wall of a non-coated fabric, the wall having an inner surface facing away from a vehicle interior in an inflated condition of the gas bag, wherein a heat dissipating means is provided on the inner surface of the wall. In a preferred embodiment, the heat dissipating means consist of long floating plastic threads oriented in a weft or warp direction and interwoven with said fabric.

  • Patent number: 6068289
Abstract: A compressed gas accumulator for a vehicle occupant restraint system comprises an accumulator container in which gas is stored for a long time at high pressure, a pyrotechnical charge, and at least one gas exit port. The exit port is opened by activation of the pyrotechnical charge in response to an activating signal to enable the compressed gas to emerge from the accumulator container. The gas exit port has a flow cross-section and at least one wall at least partly rimming the exit port. At least a portion of the wall is of a material which is attacked by the gas in the course of gas exit by erosion and/or combustion so that the flow cross-section of the gas exit port is increased to a degree which is at least approximately predetermined.
