  • Publication number: 20110007161
Abstract: A variable focal length lens sensor system for use with UAVs is disclosed. A variable focal length lens camera for use with cell phones. One or more static optical components and one or more are within a housing. The variable focal length lens includes a sidewall and first and second optical surfaces defining an aperture. One or more of the optical surfaces are at least partially elastic. One or more lens fluids are disposed between the aperture and sidewall. An actuator is configured to apply a force to a portion of the variable focal length lens. The applied force results in a change in focal length of the variable focal length lens. The combination of static optical components and variable focal length lenses are capable of providing variable zoom and focus. An image sensor is optically coupled to the variable focal length lens for capturing images. Control electronics are configured to control the fluidic lens and sensor.

  • Patent number: 5990990
Abstract: A system and method generate volumetric, three-dimensional displays, including displays of images or data. An apparent position of a volumetric image is translated by employing an image translation chamber with various combinations of concave and convex reflectors, mirrors, lenses, and/or holographic optical elements. A high-speed opto-mechanical shutter may also be used, as well as acousto-optic modulators (AOMs) for very high-speed intensity modulation of a coherent light beam to generate a periodic pattern of light packets or pulses. Active and passive multi-planar optical elements (MOEs) are also used in either a reflective or a transmissive mode and optionally having interposed layers of switchable liquid crystal material. A multi-planar optical sensor with interposed layers of light-sensitive material may be employed, as well as a gas imaging chamber for displaying the three-dimensional images. The system and method also allow interaction with the volumetric display of an image.

  • Patent number: 5572375
Abstract: The apparent position of a three-dimensional volumetric image can be "translated" or moved away from image generation apparatus by employing an image translation chamber comprising two concave reflectors. In one embodiment, a reduced portion or "sector" of the image translation chamber can be provided to facilitate image translation for a restricted range of viewing angles. In another embodiment, two or more image translation chambers can be "stacked" to provide double translation of a three-dimensional image over a greater distance. In another embodiment of the invention, a bi-convex lens can be used to translate the apparent position of a three-dimensional image.

  • Patent number: 5311335
Abstract: A laser light show device and method produces a surface projected or suspended holographic image, and includes multiple image projectors. One image projector provides the object image information representing the primary subject. For surface projections, additional background image projectors provide background image information generated using a wobbler plate-reflected beam diffracted through a spherical lens, a beam unidimensionally diffracted through a rotating cylindrical amorphic dipolyhedral lens, and a beam diffracted through multiple diffraction gratings. A suspended holographic image is produced by parabolically focusing multiple images projected onto a spherical image screen.
