Patent number: 8699354Abstract: The mode of operation in which a port is configured to operate may be selected so that the manner in which the port will interpret a loss of signal on a receive fiber may be specified. In an immediate mode, the port will interpret a loss of signal on a receive fiber as an indication of a fault on the transmit fiber (or interfaces associated with the transmit fiber) and will immediately shut its transmit interface down. In a multiple cycle detection mode, the port will not immediately interpret a loss of signal on a receive fiber as an indication of a fault on the transmit fiber, but rather will begin monitoring the receive fiber to look for a specified loss of signal pattern on the receive fiber. In this mode the port will interpret a repetitive loss of signal on the receive fiber as an indication of a fault on the transmit fiber. By providing a mode selector, the manner in which the ports are configured to operate may be adjusted individually, as a group, or globally.Type: GrantFiled: December 21, 2005Date of Patent: April 15, 2014Assignee: Rockstar Consortium US LPInventors: Jagdish S. Patent number: 6258172Abstract: A method and apparatus for boronizing a metal workpiece which includes the step of providing a container having a least one workpiece receiving chamber and at least one heating chamber adapted to heat the workpiece receiving chamber. The metal workpiece to be boronized is placed within the workpiece receiving chamber in physical contact with a boronizing agent. The heating chamber is heated until the workpiece receiving chamber is heated to a sufficient temperature for a sufficient length of time to boronize the workpiece. With this method an internal heating chamber positioned within the container is used to supply heat for the boronizing process, as opposed to placing the container into a boronizing furnace. This eliminates the need for a boronizing furnace, with all of its associated expense.Type: GrantFiled: October 28, 1999Date of Patent: July 10, 2001Inventors: Gerald Allen Foster, Dale William MacKenzie

Patent number: 6234539Abstract: A quick connect sealing and clamping apparatus and method having a pair of oppositely positioned sleeves (12) interconnected by a flexible coupling (14). The pair of oppositely positioned sleeves (12) includes a locking device (16) for locking the oppositely positioned sleeves (12) together when in position. The oppositely positioned sleeves (12) in conjunction with flexible coupling (14), form a passageway (18) into which one free end (20) of device (22) is placed from one side of oppositely positioned sleeve (12). The other free end (24) of device (22), or free end (24) of another device (26), is placed into passageway (18) in the other oppositely positioned sleeve (12). Oppositely positioned sleeves (12) are then rotated in opposite directions so as to wind, twist, and torque flexible coupling (14) around device (22) (device 26) thereby sealing them against contaminants and joining them to quick connect sealing and clamping device (10).Type: GrantFiled: March 5, 1999Date of Patent: May 22, 2001Inventor: Richard Allen Foster

Patent number: 5745897Abstract: A system and method for generating a plurality of output files based on a Management Information Base (MIB) specification is provided. The system includes one or more MIB compilers designed to produce outputs based on a MIB specification. Each of the MIB compilers reads a set of directives that are maintained separate from the MIB specification. The set of directives indicate which of the modules and items defined in the MIB specification are to be processed during a given MIB compilation operation. The set of directives may also specify MIB additional attributes and values for items that are defined in the MIB specification. The set of directives may also specify that, for the purposes of the MIB compilation operation, a MIB item is to be treated as though it had a different attribute than an attribute specified for the MIB item in the MIB specification.Type: GrantFiled: November 21, 1994Date of Patent: April 28, 1998Assignee: Bay Networks Group, Inc.Inventors: David Theodore Perkins, Gregory Allen Foster

Patent number: 5684988Abstract: An apparatus for acquiring a plurality of values from an agent on a network is provided. The apparatus may be accessed through a predefined interface by various network management station applications. Because the apparatus is independent from the network management applications, the functionality provided by the apparatus need not be duplicated in each network management station application. The apparatus generally includes an agent identification unit, a display mechanism, a database access unit, a storage device and an information retrieval unit. The storage device stores a database containing data representing agents, management information bases, objects and attribute groups. When a network management station application requires values from an agent, the network management station application sends the apparatus a signal identifying the agent and specifying an information category, such as performance, status, or diagnostic. The agent identification unit identifies the type of the agent.Type: GrantFiled: July 22, 1994Date of Patent: November 4, 1997Assignee: Bay Networks, Inc.Inventors: Balaji Pitchaikani, Chen-Yea Luo, Gregory Allen Foster
