  • Patent number: 6611398
Abstract: A head for a tape drive system has a plurality of transducers formed on a substrate and protected by a cover bar, with a tie bar bonded to the cover bar. The tie bar extends along a tape-facing surface beyond the cover bar, enhancing the structural integrity of the head. Wear bars may be bonded to the substrate, cover bar and tie bar. Alternatively, the tie bar may have a notch within which the substrate and cover bar are bonded. The tie bar reduces misalignment and instability of the transducers, providing increased storage capacity and greater reliability and durability of the tape drive system.

  • Patent number: 6577470
Abstract: A method and system for providing a tape head subassembly is disclosed. The method and system include providing a device, a left head block segment and a right head block segment. The device is for writing to a media. The left head block segment includes an integrated outrigger rail and has a first space. The right head block segment includes a first wear bar and a second wear bar and has a second space therein. The first and second wear bars are integrated as part of the right head block segment. The second space separating the first wear bar from the second wear bar and is configured to fit the device. The tape head subassembly is formed by bonding the device, the right head block segment and the left head block segment such that the device fits into the first space and the second space.

  • Patent number: 4897001
Abstract: An apparatus and method for removing a head gimbal from a head stack assembly without causing damage to adjacent head gimbals and minimizing damage to the head stack assembly. The tool driver of a miniature drill is inserted through holes in the stack assembly and attached head gimbals to the position of the head gimbal to be removed. A removable cutting tool is attached to the tool driver and the head gimbal is drilled free of the head stack assembly.

  • Patent number: 3940798
Abstract: The present invention relates to a magnetic recording head and specifically the back bar of a multi-channel magnetic recording head for use in high performance multitrack disc files. Crosstalk is substantially reduced by incorporating a specially shaped back bar, such as a back bar having an L-shaped cross section to enclose and reduce the crosscoupling fringing fields from the back gaps. In addition, the use of an epoxy with a magnetic filler material is included to further reduce the back gap fringing fields. The above-mentioned techniques when used in combination with a limited dimension intertrack shield can greatly reduce the crosstalk between cores of a high track density flying head.
