  • Patent number: 5248026
Abstract: An apparatus and a method are provided for controlling a force applied to actuate a belt scraper mechanism by the use of a pressurized fluid which moves a piston assembly, slidably contained within a cylinder, to transmit the force through a connecting piston rod to the scraper mechanism. A spring interposed between a pair of piston heads of the piston assembly is compressed by the pressurized fluid acting against one of the pistons to transmit resilient biasing force to the scraper mechanism through the other piston. The scraper mechanism is preferably formed of a hard material, such as metal, and the spring acts as a shock absorber permitting reverse movement of the scraping edge such as when encountering a transverse splice in the conveyor belt being cleaned. Grease is preferably used as the working fluid.

  • Patent number: 5007523
Abstract: A conveyor belt scraper assembly includes a plurality of blade scraper units detachably mounted to a support shaft with a clamping bolt and hold-down bar arrangement. The plural scraper units are preferably molded from resilient material. The one or more scraper units adapted to contact center portions of the conveyor belt is preferably formed of a harder material than the scraper units contacting side portions of the belt. The assembly is driven into and out of scraping contact with the conveyor belt into means of a piston and cylinder arrangement with the cylinder preferably actuated with pressurized water from conventional sources as available in a mining environment. The cylinder is transparent to permit visual monitoring of the location of the piston head. First and second marker tapes fixed to the transparent cylinder provide points of reference indicative of blade wear and the need for replacement when the piston head contacts the second marker.

  • Patent number: 5007524
Abstract: An apparatus and a method are provided for controllably applying a force for actuating a belt scraper mechanism by the use of pressurized water to move a cylinder slidingly contained within a cylinder preferably made of a non-corrodable and non-magnetic material. In one aspect of the invention, the water-pressurized cylinder is mounted in a manner that permits ready resetting to determine the maximum force with which the belt scraping is effected. In another aspect of the invention, the force generated by pressurized water to actuate a blade scrapper mechanism is applied thereto through resilient means capable of absorbing incidental shock loading.
