  • Patent number: 5755679
Abstract: Improved apparatus for stabilizing the foot to control gait, wherein a sheet and a strap of limited elasticities are wrapped around the foot in a prescribed manner so that the sheet forms a sleeve around the arch and instep of the foot. The strap ends are attached to the sleeve so as to limit excessive pronation, assist in resupination and enhance retrograde stability to the major joints of the foot. The strap extends at an angle from a location on the sleeve adjacent to the bottom of the foot, up across the instep, over the top of the foot, around the heel, back along the medial side of the foot and can be fastened to the sleeve with a patch of fastening material, resulting in an adjustable fastening location below the first metatarsal of the foot. The patch can fasten intermediate locations of the strap to the sleeve to allow one apparatus to fit different sized feet.

The sleeve is slid over the foot and around the arch. The strap extends at an angle from a location on the sleeve adjacent to the bottom of the foot, up across the instep, over the top of the foot, around the heel, back along the medial side of the foot and fastens to the sleeve at an adjustable location below the first metatarsal of the foot. The strap is adjustably and releasably connected at intermediate locations to the sleeve.

  • Patent number: 4446633
Abstract: A biomechanical article of footwear constructed to assure proper control of pronation and supination of the wearer's foot during locomotion achieved primarily by coordinate action of an extended varus wedge molded into the inner side of the heel and arcuate ribs in the forward half of the outsole designed to collapse and expedite torquing and reduce shearing forces of the foot and leg during med-stance propulsion. These important features are supplemented beneficially by an insole assembly including a material which takes a set during initial use in conformity with load bearing surfaces of the foot, and raised areas of the sole assembly beneath metatarsal arch to aid uniform weight distribution, and by a toe crest. Additionally and importantly improved self-adjusting strapping is provided to hold the sole assembly to the foot.

  • Patent number: 4392487
Abstract: A method and apparatus for stabilizing the foot to control gait wherein an adjustable elastic sleeve and a substantially inelastic strap are wrapped around the foot in a prescribed fashion with the strap ends anchored to the sleeve so as to limit excessive pronation and assist in resupination of the foot. In one embodiment, the sleeve is wrapped around the arch of the foot and the strap extends from a location on the sleeve adjacent the bottom of the foot, up across the instep, over the top of the foot and around the heel, from which position the strap extends back to the sleeve and fastens thereto near the instep. One or more guides on the sleeve help maintain the strap in the desired position on the foot and the strap may be folded over on itself to aid in conforming to the curvature of the foot in the heel region. In another embodiment the sleeve is wrapped around the arch, but the strap extends from opposite sides of the sleeve directly around the heel.

  • Patent number: 4187620
Abstract: A shoe is disclosed utilizing interrelated structural elements for dynamic cooperation with the human foot to reduce the likelihood of injury or deterioration during strenuous activity or over extended intervals of time, while affording greater comfort and ease of motion. The shoe bottom includes a sole above which a platform provides a plurality of cylindrical spaces that receive plugs in loose telescopic relationship, to define spaces for coil springs. So mounted, the coil springs are stabilized against lateral displacement.Above the platform, the shoe bottom is affixed to an upper shoe covering to define a space for the wearer's foot. At the rear quarter of the shoe upper, a heel cup stabilizes the heel of a wearer's foot against lateral, medial, or posterior displacement as well as to distribute the forces on the heel reducing the likelihood of trauma.
