  • Patent number: 4314222
Abstract: There is disclosed an improved anticipator construction for a space heating and/or cooling thermostat in which a heat conductor is positioned in contact with the anticipator resistor heater with a portion thereof in heat exchange relationship to the bimetallic switch actuator of the thermostat. The preferred embodiment includes an elongated resistive heater having a non-linear resistance along its length with a moveable contact mounted within the thermostat for providing a fixed adjustability in the resistance of the resistive heater. The non-linear resistance of the resistive heater compensates, at least partly, for the exponential heat release response with variation in resistance of the resistive heater, thereby providing an expanded range of applications of the thermostat.

  • Patent number: 4246457
Abstract: An electrical swtich construction having a self-contained and completely operable electrical switch assembly disposed in a protective envelope and having leads extending from the assembly and projecting externally through an opening in one end of the envelope. A removable end closure is carried by the envelope and closes the opening of the one end thereof, the end closure having apertures therethrough and removably receiving the leads therethrough whereby the self-contained switch assembly is adapted to be carried by the end closure away from the protective envelope when the end closure is removed from the one end of the protective envelope and the self-contained switch assembly is adapted to be removed from the end closure solely by pulling the leads out of the apertures thereof.

  • Patent number: 4223291
Abstract: There is disclosed a timer mechanism having a driven clock dial with a mechanism for sequential operational modes activated by arms which are adjustably fixedly carried on the clock dial. The invention comprises a bracket fixedly carried on the clock dial which receives a removeable arm clip permitting the clip to be removed and the arm deactivated. The device is particularly intended for use with room or space heating thermostats and the removeable clip permits conversion of the thermostat from single to multile set-back capability.

  • Patent number: 4129847
Abstract: A cut-back thermostat construction having a thermostat arrangement and a timer carried by a housing in such a manner that the timer will cut back the temperature setting of the thermostat arrangement by moving an electrical switch of the thermostat arrangement relative to a temperature responsive switch operator of the thermostat arrangement when a predetermined time is reached by the timer. A movable actuator is operatively associated with the switch to be adapted to cause a certain movement of the switch relative to the switch operator when the actuator is moved from a first position thereof to a second position thereof by the timer when the predetermined time is reached. An adjustable member is separate from the actuator and is adapted to select the amount of movement of the switch relative to the switch operator when the actuator is moved from the first position thereof to the second position thereof whereby the adjustable member selects the cut-back temperature of the thermostat arrangement.

  • Patent number: 4087229
Abstract: An automatic fuel ignition system has a spark generator for igniting a pilot burner and two separate pilot flame sensing systems to provide a redundant safety check of flame ignition before the main burner gas is turned on. One sensing system includes a rectifying electrode in the pilot burner flame and a electronic flame sensing circuit responsive to the flame conductivity while the second sensing system includes a flame switch located in the flame and responsive to the heat of the flame.

  • Patent number: 4054859
Abstract: A flame probe for use in an automatic pilot ignition system includes both a thermally responsive flame switch and a sensing electrode located in the flame for use in a flame conductivity sensing circuit. Separate conductive paths are provided for the flame switch and for connection to the sensing electrode and the conductive paths are completely insulated from each other.

  • Patent number: 4035594
Abstract: A slide switch is formed by a housing which slidably receives a carrier with a resilient spring contact which bridges between selected pairs of a plurality of contact poles disposed in a longitudinal row along one wall of the housing. The spring contact member is received within the carrier and is biased therein against a fulcrum abutment to provide a resilient rocking action in making and breaking electrical contact. The spring contact member also resiliently biases the detent of the switch which includes a plurality of transverse slots disposed along an opposite wall of the housing with cooperative rib members on the engaging surface of the carrier.

  • Patent number: 3953697
Abstract: A switch including a housing carrying a first contact defining a first fulcrum and having an elongated electrically conductive lever blade disposed in overlying relationship and carrying a second contact from one end thereof for normally engaging such first contact. A third contact is carried from the opposite end of such blade and is movable through a predetermined path to engage a fourth contact carried from the housing and defining a second fulcrum. Biasing means is provided for normally biasing the second and third contacts into engagement with the respective first and fourth contacts. An actuator is operative to overcome such biasing means to disengage the second contact from the first contact and is further operative to, in case the first and second contacts become welded together, sufficiently overcome such biasing means to disengage the third and fourth contacts.
