  • Patent number: 10627146
Abstract: A system includes a sensor and a controller for a refrigeration or HVAC system having a compressor. The sensor senses a temperature of the compressor during operation of the compressor. The controller is configured to determine a rate of change of the temperature relative to time and to perform one or more procedures to protect the compressor based on the rate of change of the temperature. The one or more procedures to protect the compressor include shutting down the compressor, throttling a pressure regulator valve of an evaporator associated with the compressor, adjusting an expansion valve associated with the evaporator, reducing speed of the compressor, and partially or wholly unloading the compressor.

    Assignee: Emerson Climate Technologies, Inc.
Inventors: Frank S. Wallis, Randall Knick, Diane Belinda Patrizio, Richard Allen Miu
  • Patent number: 10180138
Abstract: A system for controlling capacity of a compressor comprises a minimum determination module (204) selectively increasing a minimum capacity of a compressor when a temperature of the compressor is greater than a first predetermined temperature; and a control module (104) increasing an actual capacity of the compressor in response to an increase in the minimum capacity. A method for controlling capacity of a compressor is also disclosed. The system and method modulate the capacity of the compressor according to the different temperatures.

  • Patent number: 9999087
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention solve problems experienced by mesh networks concerning loop formation where two nodes are connected by both a wired and wireless link. The present invention prevents or ‘breaks’ a loop that that would otherwise result in continually repeating and delayed network data transmission.

  • Patent number: 9792188
Abstract: The system monitors a wireless device, detects when the device has failed or is not operating properly, and is able to remotely reset the device. The device may be reset remotely without a technician required to physically attend to the device. This out of band management allows for quicker, cheaper and more efficient handling of undesired states of a device, such as failure to operate. For a modem, the system may detect that the modem is not broadcasting a signal or is not communicating with the Internet or other network. The reset may be implemented through an access point in communication with the malfunctioning modem. For an access point, the system may detect that the access point is not communicating with a modem or another access point. The reset may be implemented by a neighboring access point or modem.

  • Patent number: 8553611
Abstract: Methods and systems for multi-access point transmission of data using a plurality of access points are disclosed. Methods include identifying a plurality of access points to be used cooperatively in combination with each other for the transmission of data to a receiver. The transmission of the data to the receiver via the plurality of access points is enabled utilizing at least one multi-access point transmission scheme.

  • Publication number: 20050149764
Abstract: Systems and methods are described for managing network connectivity for mobile users, particularly when a mobile user roams between two networks or between two subnets of a network. An announcer signal is broadcast by a host organization. The announcer signal includes a network identifier, an authorizer address and a verifier address. A mobile client monitors for the announcer signal and, when detected, provides an option to connect to the network via the authorizer. Once authorization is obtained, the mobile client communicates with the network through the verifier. The verifier received tagged data packets from a mobile client and only accepts the data packets if a valid tag (created with an authorization key) is included therewith. Multiple verifiers may be used to provide load balancing and fault tolerance (in the event a verifier fails).
