Patent number: 5594667Abstract: A method for continuously correcting for the baseline drift of a sensor which measures a cyclically varying parameter. The output signal of the sensor is sampled rapidly over an integer number of cycles of the measured parameter. The sampled values of the output signal are stored as a data set in a memory circuit for subsequent analysis by a computing circuit to determine the actual baseline level of the sensor, which drifts at a rate relatively slowly in comparison to the time interval during which the data set was collected. In one embodiment of the invention, baseline level is calculated as the average of a fixed percentage of the points in the data set which have the lowest values found in the data set. In another embodiment, a data mask with multiple selection segments spaced at time intervals equal to the period of the cyclically varying measured parameter is used to determine those points from the data set which are averaged to calculate the baseline level.Type: GrantFiled: July 10, 1992Date of Patent: January 14, 1997Inventor: Allen Myers

Patent number: 5592606Abstract: A method and apparatus for storing and accessing a large amount of hierarchally organized data obtained by a yield monitor for agricultural harvesters. Data can be collected for any number of fields, each containing any number of loads. After the data has been collected, any load data value or field total value can be displayed by first selecting either the field or load level of the hierarchy, and then moving between fields or loads using up and down arrow keys on a keypad. A data display is divided into multiple partitions, one for displaying the selected field number, or a selected load number within the selected field, and two other partitions for displaying data recorded or computed for the selected field or load. Additional keys associated with these displays allow selection of many alternate data values for each display partition.Type: GrantFiled: July 30, 1993Date of Patent: January 7, 1997Inventor: Allen Myers

Patent number: 5561250Abstract: A system and method for continuously measuring mass flow rate of grain in a harvester where an impact plate is disposed to be impacted by grain exiting a power driven conveyor which is a normal part of the harvester. The impact plate is mounted on force measuring apparatus which generates an electrical signal proportional to grain impact force. Computing apparatus in electrical communication with the force measuring apparatus calculates the average value of grain impact force, adjusts this value to compensate for the difference between an actual measured operating speed of the conveyor and a constant reference speed, and calculates grain mass flow rate utilizing a mass flow calibration characteristic which relates grain mass flow rate to average grain impact force, where this calibration characteristic is non-linear and has different values for different grain types and different grain moisture contents.Type: GrantFiled: May 31, 1994Date of Patent: October 1, 1996Inventor: Allen Myers

Patent number: 5369603Abstract: A method and apparatus for determining the calibration characteristic of a sensor which produces an output signal which has a non-linear relationship to the value of a measured parameter. In one embodiment of the invention, the non-linear input/output characteristic of the sensor is represented by an equation of a curve. In another embodiment of the invention, the non-linear input/output characteristic is approximated by a series of straight lines which correspond to a series of ranges in the output signal. During periods of measurement, the output signal of the sensor is repeatedly sampled and used to calculate running totals of data sums which are subsequently used in combination with the characteristic parameters for the curve or series of straight lines for calculating the time integral of the measured parameter. The actual value of the quantity represented by the time integral is also measured by separate means.Type: GrantFiled: July 19, 1992Date of Patent: November 29, 1994Inventor: Allen Myers

Patent number: 5122037Abstract: A manual displacement control is provided for varying the displacement of a hydraulic pump. The pump has a tiltable swashplate and is used in a hydraulic system which includes a control valve having an axially movable spool for metering control fluid to modulate the swashplate position. A displacement control linkage has a non-linear coupling element and a resilient override spring serially connected between the input lever and the valve spool. A torsional centering spring is connected between the input lever and the override spring to generate a feedback force which opposes a control force applied thereto and urges the input lever to a position representative of the no flow position of the pump swashplate. An adjustable connection is provided for centering the valve spool while maintaining a corresponding neutral position of the input lever and swashplate during assembly of the displacement control.Type: GrantFiled: July 12, 1991Date of Patent: June 16, 1992Assignee: Sauer, Inc.Inventors: H. Allen Myers, Kerry Geringer

Patent number: 4864994Abstract: An engine override control for an engine (10) which drives a vehicle transmission (18) and an auxiliary variable displacement pump (20) and which is operable to increase engine speed beyond a set engine speed command to increase flow from the auxiliary pump which has reached maximum displacement at said set engine speed under the control of flow-compensator control (60). A valve (31) controls the delivery of fluid from the pump to a load (34) and associated orifices (42a) and (43a) establish a pressure differential between the pressure of fluid supplied by the auxiliary pump (20) and the operating pressure applied to the load. A cylinder (80) responsive to the pressure differential acts on a control member (12) for the engine governor to increase the speed of the engine when the pressure differential falls below a predetermined value.Type: GrantFiled: November 16, 1981Date of Patent: September 12, 1989Assignee: Sundstrand CorporationInventor: H. Allen Myers

Patent number: 4739616Abstract: A displacement control for a variable displacement hydraulic motor wherein the control is a summing pressure compensator control which is responsive to the pressures of a plurality of loads so that the average, weighted average, or total pressures of the loads can be sensed to generate a control signal for increasing the displacement of at least one motor when the plurality of pressures have a sum or average above a predetermined level. The summing pressure compensator control can also include an overpressure sensing device which is responsive to the pressure of one load, or the highest pressure of more than one load, to also provide a control signal to increase motor displacement. The increase in motor displacement limits the pressure of the motor system.Type: GrantFiled: December 13, 1985Date of Patent: April 26, 1988Assignee: Sundstrand CorporationInventor: H. Allen Myers

Patent number: 4483663Abstract: The output speed droop compensating control is associated with a variable displacement pump connected to a motor in a fluid system. The pump has a swash plate urged in one direction by a hydraulic fluid pressure moment acting through the pistons of the pump and a servo control cylinder having a control piston connected to the swash plate. The control includes a control valve connected to the control cylinder and having a set position for maintaining a fluid pressure in the control cylinder to set the position of the swash plate for a particular pump displacement. The control valve is movable from the set position to adjust the position of the swash plate by connection of the control cylinder to either control pressure or drain.Type: GrantFiled: August 23, 1982Date of Patent: November 20, 1984Assignee: Sundstrand CorporationInventor: H.
