  • Patent number: 11897543
Abstract: A vehicle includes a battery system arranged in a central region. The battery system includes corners corresponding to corners of an end of the vehicle, and respective chassis components are arranged at each corner. Respective shear brackets are affixed to the vehicle frame to a respective chassis component. The shear brackets are configured to absorb energy from the chassis components during deceleration events. The chassis components may include a knuckle configured to engage with the frame at an interface, to which the shear bracket may be added. Each shear bracket is formed from metal, such as sheet metal, and includes mounting features such as holes or studs to affix to the frame. The shear brackets are configured to limit intrusion of the chassis components into the battery system by absorbing energy. A bolt or fastener affixing a chassis component to the frame is strengthened by the shear bracket.

  • Patent number: 11851104
Abstract: A system for managing wheel kinematics during a collision event includes a break-away region for releasing a joint of a lower control arm. The system includes a recess arranged in a frame member, and a pin arranged vertically in the recess and configured to couple the lower control arm to the frame member. The break away region includes a reduced stiffness and is configured to fail under the collision event to allow the pin to move laterally out of the recess. The recess may be formed by a top plate and a bottom plate or a C-shaped bracket, which include through features to accommodate the pin. The break-away region includes a first notch and a second notch that reduce a stiffness of the structures that form the recess, thus allowing the pin to be released under a predetermined loading. The break-away region may fracture to release the pin.

  • Publication number: 20230302864
Abstract: A vehicle includes a suspension system for providing configurable stiffness and damping. The system includes a plurality of hydraulic cylinders, each corresponding to a respective wheel of the vehicle, and one or more valve assemblies for controlling hydraulic fluid in the plurality of hydraulic cylinders to achieve a plurality of suspension modes affecting bounce, pitch, roll, and warp. The system also includes a plurality of accumulators acting as spring elements for storing and releasing the hydraulic fluid as the plurality of hydraulic cylinders compress and rebound. The system includes control circuitry for controlling the valve assemblies to achieve one or more suspension modes defining bounce, pitch, roll, and warp stiffnesses. By generating control signals for the valve assemblies, various interconnections or fluid paths can be achieved, corresponding to the suspension modes. The hydraulic cylinders are double acting, with rebound and compression volumes, and may be coupled to damping valves.

  • Publication number: 20230070543
Abstract: Systems and methods are presented herein for a subframe mount of a front subframe comprising a vehicle frame. The subframe mount comprises a main body configured to receive a securing feature of a frame body of the vehicle frame. The subframe mount also comprises an open-ended slot configured to enable translation of the securing feature independent of the subframe mount in response to an impact event.
