    Abstract: A printer has monochrome and color printing heads for printing color and monochrome images, respectively, and a media feed path for moving sheets of media by the printing heads. The media feed path has a color position in which the color printing heads print color images and the monochrome printing head prints monochrome images, and a monochrome position in which the monochrome printing head prints monochrome images but the color printing heads cannot print color images. A memory stores data on prior print jobs, and a control circuit switches the media feed path from the color position to the monochrome position in response to the data stored in the memory.

    Abstract: Method and apparatus facilitate alignment of a print image to a desired position. The print image includes a set of original linear groupings of pixels. A distortion of the print image is determined as compared to the desired position. Based on the determined distortion, a set of original linear groupings of pixels to warp is identified. A set of warped linear groupings of pixels is then generated, which correspond to the set of original groupings of pixels. A placement location in the print image for the warped linear groupings of pixels so generated is identified, and the print image is printed with the set of warped linear groupings of pixels.

    Abstract: For a multiprocess application including a plurality of work stations at which the application processes proceed simultaneously, such as a printer including serially aligned laser and inkjet print engines, a method of controlling job throughput includes providing a queue for each work station, providing job data to the queues for a plurality of jobs, and consecutively tracking for the jobs the progress of the process corresponding to the rate-determining step for the application for each of the jobs so that as each job is completed at a particular work station the work station begins the process of the work station for the next job.

    Abstract: The amount of toner remaining in each toner cartridge (20a-20d) of a printer (1) is estimated by incrementing a count when one pel is detected in each small region of the bit map. The printer senses toner out, after which the scale ascribed to one count is revised to reflect the actual count to toner out. Specifically, the count to toner out becomes the number representative of empty so that one-half of that count is interpreted as half full. The remaining toner in each cartridge is displayed to the operator at a gauge (21).

    Abstract: Printer (1) has the capability of printing in either 600 by 600 dpi resolution or 300 by 300 dpi under control of data processor controller (17). Bit maps for printing are stored in memory (19). When complex pages require more memory than is available, information from groups of bits in the 600 by 600 bit map is used to define the significance of one bit in a 300 by 300 bit map and the page is printed in the 300 by 300 bit map. This avoids terminating printing or printing partial pages and the difference in images are minor.
