  • Patent number: 9980028
Abstract: Methods and apparatuses for user sound exposure limiting are disclosed. In one example, an accumulated sound dose exposure from a headset speaker is determined for a plurality of sequentially monitored time intervals during a current listening session, wherein the current listening session comprises a total session time. It is determined whether a predicted sound dose exposure for the total session time exceeds or falls below a permitted sound dose exposure limit, the predicted sound dose exposure determined from the accumulated sound dose exposure. A threshold intervention level at which a time-weighted-average limiter at a headset applies attenuation to an audio signal output at a headset speaker is adjusted.

  • Patent number: 9978357
Abstract: Methods and apparatuses for headphones are disclosed. In one example, a noise cancelling signal is generated with an active noise cancelling system, and the noise cancelling signal is output at a headphones speaker. • Patent number: 9620141
Abstract: Methods and apparatuses for addressing open space noise are disclosed. In one example, a method for masking open space noise includes outputting a test signal from a speaker, the test signal operable to measure a speech transmission quality of a transmission channel. The method includes receiving the test signal at a microphone, outputting a detected test signal, and processing the detected test signal to determine the speech transmission quality of the transmission channel. The method further includes adjusting an output level of a noise masking signal from the speaker responsive to the speech transmission quality.

  • Patent number: 7561700
Abstract: A system and method detects whether or not a microphone apparatus is positioned incorrectly relative to an acoustic source and of automatically compensating for such mispositioning. A position estimation circuit determines whether the microphone apparatus is mispositioned. A controller facilitates the automatic compensation of the mispositioning.

  • Patent number: 7457644
Abstract: Improper microphone position and speech level on a telephone headset is sensed by comparison of a speech envelope to multiple signal threshold levels. A first threshold is used to determine whether a headset user is talking. A second threshold is used to determine whether a signal level at the microphone is sufficiently strong for proper communication. An indicator is activated when the user is talking and the signal level is too weak. Typically, a weak signal is caused by a mispositioned microphone or a user talking too softly.

  • Patent number: 7190797
Abstract: A telephone headset utilizing a foldable microphone boom that is operable in both noise canceling and omnidirectional modes is disclosed. The headset generally comprises a main body, a boom extending between a pivoting end and a microphone housing for housing a two-port microphone, and a pivoting hinge coupling the pivoting end of the boom to the main body and enabling the boom to rotate about the pivoting hinge relative to the main body. The boom is adapted to be positioned in a first extended position in which the microphone is located away from the main body and both ports are open and a second folded position in which the microphone housing is at least partially in contact with the main body to generally close one of the ports.
