  • Publication number: 20060006124
Abstract: A separate filter cartridge and latch release are used to replace a used filter cartridge in a filter assembly having a latch. In one example, the filter cartridge includes opposing end caps that are substantially the same as one another. The end caps have central holes. The filter cartridge is inserted into a filter assembly housing in which the latch prevents a cover from being installed onto a filter assembly housing until the latch is deactivated. The latch release is arranged relative to the filter cartridge to cooperate with the latch to enable the cover to be reattached to the filter assembly housing. The latch release includes tabs that align with features of the latch and extend through the central holes to cooperate with the latch. The latch release is removably secured to the cover and the filter cartridge.

  • Publication number: 20050252849
Abstract: A method of manufacturing an oil filter module comprises directing a laser beam at a surface of an end cap but not at a rim of the end cap so as to fuse at least a portion of the end cap, spacing the end cap and the filter medium apart from one another during the directing step, inserting an end of the filter medium into the laser-fused portion so as to bond the end of the filter medium and the end cap together upon re-solidification of the laser-fused portion, and preventing flow of the laser-fused portion caused by the inserting step from reaching a peripheral diameter of the end cap by use of the rim.

  • Publication number: 20050167356
Abstract: A filter manufacturing process includes the steps of dispensing an adhesive including an RF receptive material, and arranging the adhesive between an end disc and a filter media. The adhesive is exposed to RF waves excite the RF receptive material, which generates heat to cure the adhesive. The adhesive need only be exposed to the RF waves for several seconds. As a result, the filter media may be fully cured during the early processing stages. In one example, the adhesive is a vinyl adhesive plastisol. The filter media and end disc are passed through a curing tunnel in which an RF transmitter is arranged proximate to the adhesive to emit RF waves to excite the RF receptive material.

  • Patent number: 6500298
Abstract: Apparatus and method for the automatic removal of a protective cover from a planar sheet. Air under pressure is directed angularly from an air nozzle system at the cover to partially dislodge same and to force a portion of the cover into contact with a rotating roll. The portion of the cover in contact with the roll is held thereby until presented to the force of suction at an entrance to a suction duct. The cover is carried away by air currents in the duct after the cover and is fully stripped from the sheet.

  • Patent number: 6170045
Abstract: Data is written to and read from a shared pipe by applications of multiple systems. At least one shared pipe is located within an external shared memory coupled to one or more central processing complexes. Each of the central processing complexes has one or more operating system images, which controls execution of one or more piping applications. At least one piping application corresponding to at least one operating system image writes data to a shared pipe located in the external shared memory and at least one other application corresponding to one or more other operating system images reads data from the same shared pipe, thereby providing cross-system data piping.

  • Patent number: 6067211
Abstract: The present invention provides a cleaning apparatus for cleaning the air bearing surface of a magnetic head of a tape drive by employing components of an actuator for oscillating the magnetic head against bristles of a brush assembly. Circuitry is provided which senses the appropriate time to commence the cleaning action and continues the cleaning action for an appropriate duration when the magnetic tape is off the magnetic head. The circuitry causes the actuator to move the magnetic head in oscillatory motion against stationary bristles of a brush assembly which are selectively brought into engagement with the magnetic head. The engagement and disengagement of the bristles with respect to the magnetic head are implemented by a lever arm which has camming surfaces which are engageable with a leader pin which moves a leader block and magnetic tape about a guide and across the magnetic head.

  • Patent number: 5878205
Abstract: A method and system are provided for executing a service processor request within a data processing system having one or more processors within a central processing complex, each of the processors within the central processing complex including allocatable processor resources. Each of the processors within the central processing complex is provided with the capability of processing selected service processor requests by reserving a portion of the allocatable processor resources within each of the processors for such purpose. A service processor request within the central processing complex is initially processed utilizing at least one of the processors in response to receiving a service processor request, if sufficient processor resources are available to process the service processor request within the reserved portion of the allocatable resources.

  • Patent number: 5732269
Abstract: An adapter interface function allows data to be acted on using resources owned by a corresponding application and without any modification to the application. The adapter interface can be applied to receive data from data sources not provided for in the access methods used by the application. Likewise, the adapter can be used to write data to data sinks not supported by the access methods used by the application. The adapter interface can be provided in an I/O control system or in access method programs. Adapters are written in an interpreted language to provide run-time execution and avoid program compile, assemble, and link edit requirements. A programing interface is provided to enable invocation of stored library programs.
