Patent number: 8463600Abstract: A system and method for automatically adjusting floor controls based on conversational characteristics is provided. Audio streams are received, which each originate from an audio source. Floor controls for a current configuration including at least a portion of the audio streams are maintained. Conversational characteristics shared by two or more of the audio sources are determined. Possible configurations for the audio streams are identified based on the conversational characteristics. An analysis of the current configuration and the possible configurations is performed. A change threshold comprising a minimum number of timeslices for at least one of the current configuration and one of the possible configurations is applied to the analysis. When the analysis satisfies the change threshold, the floor controls are automatically adjusted. The audio streams are mixed into one or more outputs based on the adjusted floor controls.Type: GrantFiled: February 27, 2012Date of Patent: June 11, 2013Assignee: Palo Alto Research Center IncorporatedInventors: Paul Masami Aoki, Margaret H. Szymanski, James D. Thornton, Daniel H. Wilson, Allison Gyle Woodruff

Patent number: 7574474Abstract: At least one multimedia presentation is selected by a user of a first device, accessed from a storage source, and presented to the user. Simultaneously, information is transmitted to at least a second device to cause the selected multimedia presentation to be presented by the at least second device without the at least second device receiving input from a second user. Continuous media streams from the first user may be captured and transmitted to the second device. The presenting of the multimedia presentation on the first device is coordinated with the presenting of the multimedia presentation on the second device. The presenting of the captured media streams on the second device is coordinated with the capturing of those streams and the presenting of the multimedia presentation on the second device. Users may individually control the multimedia presentations and the captured media streams.Type: GrantFiled: September 14, 2001Date of Patent: August 11, 2009Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: James Douglass Thornton, Rebecca Elizabeth Grinter, Paul Masami Aoki, Allison Gyle Woodruff, Margaret Helen Szymanski

Patent number: 7337396Abstract: A thumbnail of an original document has at least one appearance characteristic that is different from a corresponding appearance characteristic in an original document. When retrieving a document associated with the thumbnail, a document version is displayed that is more similar in appearance to the thumbnail than the original document. If desired, one or more further versions of the document, closer to or identical to the first version, may be subsequently displayed.Type: GrantFiled: August 8, 2001Date of Patent: February 26, 2008Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventors: Ruth Rosenholtz, Allison Gyle Woodruff, Andrew Faulring
