  • Publication number: 20240344171
Abstract: A method and system for recovering low carbon ferrochrome from feed materials including chromite ore and aluminum granules in a chamber of an arc furnace using an aluminothermic smelting process carried out in the presence of an inert gas, e.g., Argon. The aluminothermic smelting process produces a bath of molten low carbon ferrochrome metal with molten slag floating thereon in the chamber. The molten low carbon ferrochrome metal and molten slag are extracted individually and processed to provide a solidified low carbon ferrochrome metal product and a solidified slag particles product, respectively. A method for the recirculation, recovery and reuse of the inert gas, and a system for accomplishing the recirculation, recovery and reuse of the inert gas.

  • Publication number: 20230399718
Abstract: A method and system for recovering a high yield of low carbon ferrochrome metal from chromite ore and low carbon ferrochrome metal produced by the method. A thermochemistry calculated mixture of feed materials including aluminum granules, burnt limestone, and chromite ore are provided into a DC plasma arc furnace. The aluminum granules are produced from aluminum scrap. The feed materials are heated upon entering the furnace free board through a feed mix injection system, whereupon the aluminum in the aluminum granules produces an exothermic reaction reducing the chromium oxide and iron oxides in the chromite ore to produce molten low carbon ferrochrome metal with molten slag floating thereon. The molten low carbon ferrochrome metal is extracted, solidified into ingots, crushed into coarse pieces or fines of low carbon ferrochrome metal product. The molten slag is extracted, quenched and solidified into slag particles product.

  • Patent number: 4556102
Abstract: A tube-type heat exchanger having inlet and output conduits and tubes connected therebetween, and a return conduit extending from the output to the inlet conduit is, as is known, traversed by a coolant liquid from the intake to the output conduit through the tubes. Balls are released into the intake conduit from the return conduit and pass with the coolant through the tubes to clean same. These balls are trapped in the output conduit and introduced back into the return conduit where each ball's momentum is measured and outputs corresponding thereto are generated. These outputs are compared with a set-point signal corresponding to minimum acceptable ball momentum and all of the balls from the conduits are withdrawn and replaced with fresh balls when in a predetermined period of time a predetermined number of the outputs fall below the set-point signal.
