    Abstract: In a recording and/or playback apparatus for record carriers accommodated in cassettes, a detection device for determining the presence of a cassette in the apparatus in the correct position. The device comprises an electric circuit for controlling an apparatus function, in response to a sensing means formed by capacitive coupling between two spaced electrodes in the apparatus and an electrically conducting component in the cassette.
