Patent number: 12141154Abstract: A method implements a dataset rank metric for measuring dataset relevance. Metadata is identified for a plurality of datasets. A graph structure is generated in storage. The graph structure includes a multitude of nodes connected by a multitude of edges. Each node of the multitude of nodes representing a respective dataset of a multitude of datasets, the multitude of edges connecting the multitude of nodes according to a data lineage determined from metadata of the multitude of datasets. A composite score is generated for each node of the graph. The computer processor iteratively processes the composite scores for the multitude of nodes of the graph to generate a dataset rank for each dataset. The multitude of datasets is presented in an interface, sorted according to the respective dataset rank of each dataset.Type: GrantFiled: November 30, 2022Date of Patent: November 12, 2024Assignee: Intuit Inc.Inventors: Sricharan Kallur Palli Kumar, Ashok N. Srivastava, Tristan Cooper Baker, Alon Amit

Patent number: 10607250Abstract: An advertising selection and placement system is provided for a social networking system. An advertising selection module identifies candidate advertisements for a user to view along with social networking content. The candidate advertisements can be placed in various slots on the user's display. The expected value of various arrangements of the candidate advertisements in the slots is determined, and advertisements may be selected and placed to optimize revenue to the system. Each advertisement is evaluated using a discount function that adjusts the price of the advertisement based on its placement.Type: GrantFiled: June 4, 2012Date of Patent: March 31, 2020Assignee: Facebook, Inc.Inventors: Alon Amit, Yaron Greif, John Hegeman

Patent number: 10565598Abstract: A social networking system (SNS) provides sponsored stories and organic stories about actions taken by other SNS users to a viewing user. Organic stories are selected based on the likelihood the viewing user is interested in their content. While advertisers compensate the SNS for presentation of sponsored stories, the sponsored stories also include information about actions by other SNS users. To increase the likelihood the viewing user interacts with sponsored stories, a common communication channel is used to present both the sponsored stories and the organic stories. To simplify selection of organic stories and sponsored stories, the SNS determines a common unit of measurement for both and makes selections based on the common unit of measurement.Type: GrantFiled: July 10, 2012Date of Patent: February 18, 2020Assignee: Facebook, Inc.Inventors: John Hegeman, Hong Ge, Maxim Gubin, Alon Amit

Patent number: 10445786Abstract: A sponsored interface of a social networking system includes links to different items accessible in the system, arranged by category. Each of the items is associated with a category from a plurality of categories. The social networking system may enable advertisers to boost the ranking of an item in the interface per user, such as a bookmark in a menu of bookmarks, a notification in a menu of notifications, and/or a message in a menu of messages, based on a fee arrangement. The items in the interface are then ranked based on expected fee maximization, taking into account an expected click-through rate.Type: GrantFiled: January 23, 2013Date of Patent: October 15, 2019Assignee: Facebook, Inc.Inventors: Alon Amit, Gregory Joseph Badros

Patent number: 10325324Abstract: A social networking system associates one or more objects in the social networking system with a link to content external to the social networking system. This allows information about the object to be used as a proxy for information about the external content. An index associating objects in the social networking system with links to content external to the social networking system is maintained. A received link to external content are parsed into components, such as a domain name, a path, and a query string, and the components are compared to the index to identify an object associated with one or more of the comments of the received link. One or more rules may be applied to increase the likelihood of the identified object having similar subject matter as the external content.Type: GrantFiled: August 28, 2012Date of Patent: June 18, 2019Assignee: Facebook, Inc.Inventors: Wenjie Fu, Alon Amit

Publication number: 20140172563Abstract: Advertisements in a social networking system may be targeted to searching users in relation with a real-time search engine operated by a social networking system. Ads are targeted to users based in part on social information included in a structured search query and/or search results on a page. In a typeahead search, a user of the social networking system may receive prefix search results of objects in the search box. The prefix search results are ranked by relevance to the user, and advertisers may bid for particular objects to increase their ranking in the results list. An option may be provided to a viewer of search query results to buy an ad that would be seen by other users who performed the same search query, received a targeted search result, or based on targeting criteria as determined by the viewer bidding on the ad.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 17, 2012Publication date: June 19, 2014Applicant: Facebook, Inc.Inventors: Alon Amit, Gregory Joseph Badros

Publication number: 20140136332Abstract: A social networking system provides a social plug-in that enables advertisers to utilize relevant social context information available for advertising purposes. An advertiser adds the social plug-in next to an ad, where the plug-in is provided with a list of items that are relevant to the ad. The social plug-in communicates with the social networking system to retrieve social context information to provide to a particular viewing user based on the list of items relevant to the ad. The social plug-in also communicates with the social networking system to determine placement of an overlay of the social context information over the ad. A social plug-in may also enable web publishers to allow the social plug-in to serve advertisements alongside other social networking system features, such as recommendations, comments and content sharing.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 14, 2012Publication date: May 15, 2014Applicant: Facebook, Inc.Inventors: Alon Amit, Gregory Joseph Badros

Publication number: 20130124447Abstract: A social networking system infers a user's present interests based on the user's recent actions and/or the recent actions of the user's connections in the social networking system. The social networking system also determines a set of concepts associated with each of a set of information items, such as advertisements. By matching the user's present interests with the concepts associated with the information items, the social networking system selects one or more of the information items that are likely to be of present interest to the user. At least one of the matched interests and concepts are not identical. The social networking system then presents the selected information items for display to the user, thereby providing information based on an inferred temporal relevance of that information to the user.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 14, 2011Publication date: May 16, 2013Inventors: Gregory Joseph Badros, Rajat Raina, Ding Zhou, Tudor Andrei Alexandrescu, Nuwan Senaratna, Hong Ge, Chi Wang, Alon Amit, John Hegeman
