  • Publication number: 20110076867
Abstract: The present invention discloses a system including: (a) a host device including: (i) a cavity; and (ii) a socket, recessed in the cavity; and (b) a UFD configured to be reversibly operationally connected to the host device via the socket, wherein the UFD is configured to physically reside substantially in the cavity when the UFD is operationally connected to the socket. Also disclosed is a UFD system including: (a) a first part having components of a UFD, wherein the components include a primary connector and an electronics assembly; and (b) a second part having a UFD holder and a secondary connector, wherein the UFD holder is configured to reversibly accommodate the first part, wherein a dimension of the first part parallel to an insertion direction of the primary connector is shorter than a dimension of the second pail parallel to an insertion direction of the secondary connector.

  • Patent number: 7512847
Abstract: A method for managing a memory device, a memory device so managed and a system that includes such a memory device. A value of a longevity parameter of the device is monitored after a data operation on the device in which the monitoring is performed by the device. A grade of the device is derived from the value. Preferred longevity parameters include a ratio of successfully-processed data to unsuccessfully-processed data and a deviation in a power consumption of the device. The grade serves as a forecast of a life expectancy of the memory. Preferred grades include: a comparison grade, a maximum grade, and an average grade.

  • Patent number: 7305539
Abstract: A prior art mass storage device for bootstrap loading of a computer operating system must be configured on a set-up computer whose BIOS has the same geometrical translation scheme as the BIOS of the host computer where the storage device is intended to be installed and used. The present invention provides a mass storage device capable of bootstrap loading the computer operating system despite differences between the BIOS geometrical translation scheme of the set-up computer and that of the host computer, along with methods for implementing and preparing such a device. The present invention provides executable code on the storage device itself, which resolves the geometrical translation of the set-up configuration to comply with that of the host computer, independent of the respective BIOS translation schemes used for set-up and host computers.
