  • Patent number: 4430886
Abstract: A method and apparatus for sensing and signaling a clogged nozzle condition in a spray gun of the type which includes a valve located adjacent the nozzle. The gun includes a restrictor located in the liquid flow path upstream of the valve and a pressure transducer located between the restrictor and the valve for measuring pressure drop when the valve of the gun is opened. A pressure drop of less than a predetermined amount is indicative of a clogged nozzle condition.

  • Patent number: 4355764
Abstract: An airless electrostatic spray gun for atomizing and electrostatically depositing liquid coating materials onto substrates. The gun is characterized by a low capacitance which enables the electrode of the gun to be shorted to a grounded object without the resulting spark having sufficient energy content to ignite the surrounding atmosphere.

  • Patent number: 4349947
Abstract: An airless spray nozzle comprising a nozzle adapter and a hard, abrasive resistant nozzle tip. The nozzle tip is sealingly brazed within an axial passage of the adapter and is mechanically locked against hydraulic pressure ejection from the adapter by lips formed on the adapter and swaged over the tip. The nozzle adapter is manufactured by a series of machining steps which includes trepanning a recess into the front face of the adapter and then subsequently straddle milling the front face to simultaneously form protective ears on the front face of the nozzle and the lips for mechanically locking the tip into the adapter. After assembly of the nozzle and tip, an outlet orifice is machined into the tip by passing a cutter grinder wheel between the spaced ears and the spaced lips on the front face of the adapter.

  • Patent number: 4346849
Abstract: An airless spray coating nozzle is made by cutting interpenetrating grooves into opposite sides of a nozzle tip blank. The groove on the pressurized or entrance side of the tip has a bottom portion which is wedge-shaped in cross section. The groove on the unpressurized or exit side of the tip has a bottom portion which is trapezoidal in cross section. Both grooves are cut into the nozzle tip with a grinding wheel after the tip has been hardened.

  • Patent number: 4139160
Abstract: A nozzle tip with a cylindrical body is held in a nozzle tip holder by means of a thin walled tapered bushing. The nozzle tip is pressed into mechanically sealing engagement with the inside surface of the smaller end of the bushing, the bushing in turn being press-fit into mechanically sealing engagement with a cylindrical passage in a nozzle tip holding member.
