  • Patent number: 5616764
Abstract: The present invention relates to the preparation of polymers bearing reactive functional groups. More particularly, this invention relates to the preparation of polymers containing functional acetoacetate groups and then following the polymerization reacting the acetoacetate group with a functional amine to form an enamine.Polymers of the present invention have many uses including coatings, sealants, adhesives and saturant applications, and are most useful as solutions or dispersions in water or water-cosolvent mixtures.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 6, 1995
Date of Patent: April 1, 1997
    Assignee: Rohm and Haas Company
Inventors: Alvin C. Lavoie, Daniel A. Bors, Ward T. Brown
  • Patent number: 5559192
Abstract: An air curing polymer composition is disclosed which contains acetoacetate functional polymer and an autoxidizable material. The composition cures on exposure to oxygen. One pack stable ambient curing compositions and a method of stabilizing acetoacetate functional groups to prevent hydrolysis are also disclosed.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 6, 1995
Date of Patent: September 24, 1996
    Assignee: Rohm and Haas Company

  • Patent number: 5331025
Abstract: This invention relates to a non-aqueous coating composition and a method for reducing the drying time of a non-aqueous coating composition by incorporating composite polymer particles having a softer, insoluble first stage and a hard second stage without adversely affecting the viscosity and pot life of the liquid coating composition and without degrading the properties of the final dry coating, including color, flexibility, impact resistance, gasoline resistance, salt spray resistance and humidity resistance.

  • Patent number: 5214095
Abstract: Stable, aqueous emulsion copolymers with controllable siloxane crosslinking functionality are provided. These copolymers are prepared by a concurrent free radical and cationic initiated emulsion polymerization of at least one free radical initiatable monomer at least one linear siloxane precursor monomer, and at least one bifunctional silane monomer having both free radical polymerizable and silicon functional groups. The copolymers are useful in curable coatings, paints, caulks, adhesives, non-woven and ceramic compositions and as modifiers, processing aids and additives in thermoplastics, cements and asphalts.
