  • Patent number: 11925387
Abstract: A surgical access device is disclosed and includes a housing, a cannula, a guide, and an expandable member. The cannula extends distally from the housing and defines a longitudinal axis. A wall of the cannula includes a first slot defined therein. The guide is engagable with the housing and defines a first channel. The first channel is disposed at a non-parallel angle relative to the longitudinal axis. The expandable member is disposed adjacent a distal portion of the cannula and is transitionable between a collapsed configuration and an expanded configuration. A first surgical instrument is insertable through the first channel of the guide and through the first slot of the cannula.

  • Patent number: 11864792
Abstract: A surgical cannula assembly includes an elongate cannula member having a plurality of longitudinal ribs extending along the longitudinal axis with adjacent longitudinal ribs defining a longitudinal channel therebetween, a fluid port mounted adjacent the proximal end of the cannula member and configured for coupling to a source of inflation fluids, a conduit positioned within at least one longitudinal channel of the cannula member and in fluid communication with the fluid port, and an expandable balloon mounted adjacent the distal end of the cannula member and in fluid communication with the conduit. The expandable balloon is configured to transition from an initial unexpanded condition to an at least partially expanded condition upon passage and entry of inflation fluids from the fluid port, through the conduit and within an internal volume of the expandable balloon.

  • Patent number: 11357540
Abstract: A port fixation device is disclosed and includes a body portion and a plug. The body portion includes a circular portion, a first tab, and a second tab. The circular portion defines an aperture which is configured to allow a surgical access port to extend therethrough. The first tab and the second tab are disposed in mechanical cooperation with the circular portion. Movement of the first tab with respect to the second tab from a first position to a second position causes a diameter of the aperture to change from a first size to a second size. The first size is smaller than the second size, and the first position of the first tab is its rest position. The plug is disposed in mechanical engagement with the body portion, and has sufficient elasticity to remain engaged with the body portion when the first tab is in the first position and in the second position.

  • Patent number: 11051849
Abstract: A cannula assembly includes a housing supporting a seal assembly, a cannula shaft extending from the housing, and a sleeve positioned about the cannula shaft including an inner fixation device that is supported on a distal end of the cannula shaft. The inner fixation device includes an anchor member that is deployable within a body cavity to obstruct withdrawal of the cannula assembly from within the body cavity. The anchor member is formed of a material that will deactivate or allow removal of the catheter assembly from the body cavity when the anchor member is deployed and an excessive force is applied to the cannula assembly to prevent ripping or tearing of tissue.

  • Patent number: 10722111
Abstract: An optical trocar assembly includes an obturator assembly and a cannula assembly configured for receipt of the obturator assembly. The obturator assembly has a retention member disposed within a cavity defined in an obturator housing of the obturator assembly. The retention member has a main body defining an opening dimensioned for receipt of a surgical instrument. The retention member has a plurality of first sections formed in the main body and circumferentially disposed about the opening. The sections have a reduced thickness relative to the main body to facilitate flexing of the retention member during insertion of a surgical instrument into the opening.

  • Patent number: 9572597
Abstract: A trocar tip protector includes a housing having a first inlet and a second inlet adjacent to each other. The first inlet is configured to receive and frictionally retain a tip of a trocar sleeve. The second inlet is configured to receive and frictionally retain a tip of a trocar obturator. The housing may be formed by extruding a generally tubular structure and then bending the generally tubular structure into a generally U-shaped configuration that positions the trocar sleeve and the trocar obturator substantially parallel relative to each other when the trocar sleeve tip is inserted into the first inlet of the housing and when the trocar obturator tip is inserted into the second inlet of the housing.
