Abstract: The disclosed subject matter relates to magnetorheological emulsions and methods of making and use thereof. For example, disclosed herein are magnetorheological emulsions comprising: a magnetorheological fluid comprising a plurality of magnetic particles dispersed in a non-magnetic carrier fluid; and a plurality of discrete emulsion droplets dispersed in the non-magnetic carrier fluid; wherein each of the plurality of discrete emulsion droplets comprises an emulsifier encapsulating an internal fluid phase; wherein the internal fluid phase and the non-magnetic carrier fluid are immiscible.
