    Abstract: A method includes performing a first seek operation using a first voice coil motor (VCM) control signal by utilizing a first drag component value. The method further includes determining a position error signal (PES) and a DC offset component of the PES measured during the first seek operation, and determining that the DC offset component is above a predetermined threshold. In response to determining that the DC offset component is above the predetermined threshold, the method further includes determining a second drag component value different than the first drag component value. The method further includes generating a second VCM control signal by applying the second drag component value.

    Abstract: A method is disclosed for selecting a rotation speed when servo writing a disk of a disk drive. A gas is injected into a head disk assembly (HDA) comprising the disk. The disk is rotated while reading data from the disk using a head to generate a read signal. A fly height modulation (FHM) of the head is measured in response to the read signal. When the FHM exceeds a threshold, the rotation speed is adjusted. The disk is servo written at the adjusted rotation speed. After servo writing the disk and evacuating the gas from the HDA, the disk is rotated at a normal rotation speed lower than the adjusted rotation speed used to servo write the disk, and manufacturing data is written to the disk at the normal rotation speed.

    Abstract: Ferromagnetic porphin compounds may be produced by heating a non-ferromagnetic porphin compound having a central transition metal atom in the non-ferromagnetic porphin molecule and at least some of the pyrrole rings of the non-ferromagnetic porphin molecule having benzene or phenyl groups substituted on or integral with said rings. The non-ferromagnetic porphin compound is heated in the substantial absence of oxygen to a temperature sufficient to pyrolyze at least a portion of the benzene or phenyl groups of the non-ferromagnetic porphin compound. A ferromagnetic porphin compound is formed, which is inherently magnetic and is capable of retaining magnetism when exposed to a magnetic field. The resulting ferromagnetic porphin compounds retain their ferromagnetic properties even up to about 473.degree. K. in air and to much higher temperatures in vacuum or an inert atmosphere.

    Abstract: A method is provided for labeling a complex metal chelate with a radioactive metal isotope via isotopic exchange between the metal atom of the complex metal chelate and the radioactive metal isotope. The complex metal chelate, in a suitable redox state, is mixed in solution with a radioactive metal isotope, freeze-dried, exposed to an electron-accepting gas and thereafter subjected to thermal treatment, whereby isotopic exchange occurs and the complex metal chelate is labeled with the radioactive metal isotope. Furthermore, an additional step comprising exposure to an atmosphere of high relative humidity is provided to increase the yield of isotopic exchange.
