  • Publication number: 20220291096
Abstract: In general, this invention discloses methods for extracting and analyzing coatings from implanted and excised animal tissue medical devices; wherein the coating comprises at least one biodegradable polymer and at least one or more therapeutic ingredients. The present invention describes optimal conditions for extraction and isolation of biodegradable polymers and therapeutics in medical devices or complex pharmaceutical agent formulations prior and after implanting or injecting into animal tissues. Particularly this work relates to accurate isolation and quantification of ppm amounts of polymer and/or therapeutics without biological interferences. The use of GPC/SEC systems equipped with light scattering detectors enables “absolute” or “true” molecular weight determination. All of these improvements allow for accurate determination of the degradation profile of the polymer/therapeutic component independent of polymer standards used in conventional GPC/SEC.

  • Publication number: 20210396723
Abstract: The present invention discloses methods for packing chromatography columns using dual-purpose valve assemblies. The key components of the dual-purpose valve comprise of the following; the inlet port (224) which sits on the first adaptor (212), the hollow nozzle (320) which passes through the first adaptor (212) cavity and is closed on the bottom end, and the internal movable plug (322). Different components of our de-vice work in way that the mobile phase and analyte(s) distribution is not blocked in the centre of the column, allowing for a uniform and homogeneous fluid distribution. This simple yet novel design offers uniform fluid distribution, stable packed bed, eliminates any void volume, and prevents bacterial contamination/growth. Ease of use, scalability, ease of cleaning, cost-efficiency and fine-tuning packing conditions such as pressure are key features of this invention.

  • Publication number: 20210317249
Abstract: The invention relates to a UV-initiated RAFT-type polymerization for producing hydrophobically associative terpolymers in an aqueous solution. The terpolymers produced by this method can be used as aqueous rheological modifiers. Specifically, the invention relates to a hydrophobically associating terpolymers and a method to produce same using a light initiated iniferter. The monomers used in the present invention are selected from: a monomer having a water-soluble monoethylenically unsaturated group; a monomer having an ionic water-soluble monoethylenically unsaturated group; and a monomer having a monoethylenically unsaturated monomer capable of forming hydrophobically associative bonds in aqueous medium. The iniferter is initiated with light of wavelength between 250-400 nm. The resultant terpolymer is produced in a cost-effective, simple, and one-step process and can be used to thicken aqueous mediums with less or equal amounts of polymer than currently available.

  • Patent number: 7614349
Abstract: A high-density composite material and its use in the manufacture of less-lethal ammunition projectile is disclosed. The composite ammunition projectile material is produced from a compact mixture of fine iron powder, a highly damping, inert, non-toxic elastomer and an inert non-toxic thermoplastic elastomer. The composite ammunition projectile material is first blended, then the projectile is injection molded or compression molded. The density of the composite ammunition projectile material is adjustable in terms of ratio of iron powder to elastomer to thermoplastic elastomer block co-polymer, but a minimum density of 2.4 gcm?3 is preferred. A blend comprising an elastomer and a thermoplastic elastomer with low creep is also disclosed.
