  • Patent number: 10869345
Abstract: A wireless network interface generates a beacon frame, and transmits the beacon frame outside of a wireless local area network (WLAN) served by an access point (AP). Additionally or alternatively, the wireless network interface receives a first probe request frame from a client station in the WLAN, and in response, generates and transmits a probe response frame outside of the WLAN. The wireless network interface receives one or more frames from the client station of the WLAN, the one or more frames having been transmitted outside of the WLAN. Network security information corresponding to the WLAN is extracted from the one or more frames, and the wireless network interface uses the network security information to wirelessly connect to the AP as part of the WLAN.

  • Patent number: 10070289
Abstract: The present disclosure includes systems and techniques relating to client association for provisioning devices in a communication network. In some implementations, an association request to associate with a provisioning device is received by a device operating in a sniffer provisioning mode. The device sniffs traffic over a wireless communication channel by listening to the wireless communication channel and capturing traffic on the wireless communication channel in the sniffer provisioning mode. In response to receiving the association request, the device switches to an access point (AP) provisioning mode. An association response to the association request is transmitted by the device over the wireless communication channel. Connection information for establishing a connection with an external AP is received by the device. A connection with the external AP is established by the device based on the connection information.

  • Patent number: 10051688
Abstract: A wireless network bridge controls a first network interface to operate as a first station in a first wireless network, and controls a second network interface to operate as an access point in a second wireless network. The bridge controls a bridge table that includes an entry associating one or more network addresses of a second station with the second network interface. The second station is accessible through the second network interface operating as an access point. The bridge receives a packet for communication between the second station and a network device in the first wireless network; examines the packet to find one or more network addresses included in the packet; associates the packet with the second station by performing a lookup of the bridge table; and communicates packet information with the second station through the second network interface, and with the network device through the first network interface.

  • Patent number: 9749844
Abstract: Apparatuses and methods for provisioning devices for connection to a wireless network including an access point are provided. A first device receives a first beacon signal broadcasted by a second device. The first beacon signal includes first information indicating capabilities of the second device. The first device uses the first information to determine whether the second device is compatible with the access point. Based on a determination that the second device is compatible with the access point, the first device wirelessly transmits packets including provisioning information usable by the second device to attempt to connect to the wireless network. The first device receives one or more second beacon signals broadcasted by the second device. The one or more second beacon signals include second information indicating a status of the second device in connecting to the wireless network.

  • Patent number: 9705693
Abstract: A first communication device detects a plurality of multicast packets transmitted by a second communication device. The first communication device determines information contained in media access control (MAC) address fields of the plurality of multicast packets. The first communication device determines wireless local area network (WLAN) provisioning information for gaining access to the WLAN, wherein the provisioning information is determined from the information contained in the MAC address fields of the plurality of multicast packets.

  • Patent number: 9620228
Abstract: A monotonically increasing persistent counter is described that is persistent across reboots of a system in which it is incorporated. The described counter employs an event counter module that counts events that are generated by various event generators within the system. One type of event that can be counted by the described counter is a state change. In various implementations, the event counter module, when employed as a state change counter module, includes a state change counter that counts state changes, and a journal mode component which provides journaling functionality which makes it possible to accommodate large numbers of state changes while, at the same time, recover the counter in the event of a system failure. In at least some embodiments, one or both of the state change counter and the journal mode component are implemented using NOR flash memory.

  • Patent number: 9420524
Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus are described for provisioning wireless communication devices. One embodiment includes a communication device that determines an operating channel corresponding to an AP having the highest received signal strength measurement. The communication device operates in an AP mode with another communication device on this same channel to facilitate provisioning of the other communication device with the AP. Another embodiment includes a communication device that operates as a station in a first wireless network and as an AP in a second wireless network with another communication device. The communication device determines a transmission time waiting interval corresponding to communication device AP mode transmissions and divides the channels into groups that can be scanned within the transmission time waiting interval. The communication device scans these channel subgroups to identify other APs available for provisioning the other communication device.

  • Patent number: 9220012
Abstract: In a method, implemented by a first device connected to a wireless network, for assisting in provisioning a second device for connection to the wireless network, the first device receives, via the wireless network and from a remote server, a public key corresponding to a private key stored in the second device. The first device uses the public key to encrypt network security information stored in the first device, the network security information including information that is useable to securely connect to the first wireless network. The first device wirelessly transmits, for reception by the second device, a signal carrying the encrypted network security information.
