  • Patent number: 9565546
Abstract: Various methods, apparatus, and computer readable media are disclosed for enhanced system acquisition while a user equipment (UE) is roaming. The UE may detect roaming from a coverage area associated with a first public land mobile network (PLMN) supporting hybrid voice and data to a coverage area associated with a second PLMN without support for hybrid voice and data. In response to the detection, the UE may store data corresponding to the second PLMN such that the second PLMN is a registered PLMN (RPLMN). The UE may initiate system acquisition, wherein the system acquisition includes searching for the RPLMN prior to searching for any other PLMN. The other PLMN may include a home PLMN (HPLMN). The coverage area associated with the first PLMN may be within a first country, and the coverage area associated with the second network may be within a second country different from the first country.

  • Publication number: 20160044581
Abstract: One or more aspects of the disclosure provide for an improved service scan operable at an access terminal (AT). At power up or selection/reselection, the AT maintains a record of the best and worst possible rank of the system records associated with each acquisition record that is read. When performing a service scan, the AT sorts the acquisition records by the best possible rank in ascending order. For further optimization, according to some aspects of the disclosure, all acquisition records of the same best possible rank may be sorted in ascending order of the least possible rank.

  • Patent number: 8442516
Abstract: A method and apparatus for world-mode devices capable of managing technology selection for multimode roaming between existing access technologies, as well as possible future access technologies, in a manner that eliminates wasteful scanning for non-existent systems and reduces roaming charges is disclosed. The method allows the device an opportunity to reacquire its home system before scanning for available roaming network resources in a prioritized manner that mitigates roaming costs, while conserving power and acquisition delays by eliminating scanning for non-existent system types. A minimum OOS duration is imposed on a home system before acquisition of a roaming partner to provide more time to re-acquire the home system. Preferred partner scanning and acquisition reduces roaming charges, while scanning for non existent systems is eliminated altogether.
