  • Publication number: 20070280493
Abstract: Various methods and apparatus for processing audio signals are disclosed herein. The assembly may be attached, adhered, or otherwise embedded into or upon a removable oral appliance to form a hearing aid assembly. Such an oral appliance may be a custom-made device which can enhance and/or optimize received audio signals for vibrational conduction to the user. Received audio signals may be processed to cancel acoustic echo such that undesired sounds received by one or more intra-buccal and/or extra-buccal microphones are eliminated or mitigated. Additionally, a multiband actuation system may be used where two or more transducers each deliver sounds within certain frequencies. Also, the assembly may also utilize the sensation of directionality via the conducted vibrations to emulate directional perception of audio signals received by the user. Another feature may include the ability to vibrationally conduct ancillary audio signals to the user along with primary audio signals.

  • Publication number: 20070038309
Abstract: A supraglottic diversioned device comprises a body and structure for diverting secretions, food, liquids, and other non-gaseous materials away from the trachea into the patient's esophagus. The body is adapted for implantation above the larynx at the bifurcation between the trachea and the esophagus. Optionally, valve structure can be provided, particularly to open upon exhalation. In all cases, the device will have air flow paths for both inhalation and exhalation.

  • Publication number: 20070017526
Abstract: A sub-glottic secretion collection device comprises a body, a baffle, and a port. The body is expandable to be deployed within a patient's trachea beneath the larynx. The baffle diverts secretions entering the trachea into a collection receptacle. The secretions may be aspirated through a port coupled to the collection receptacle. A relatively unobstructed air passageway through the device permits normal patient breathing while the secretions are being aspirated.

  • Publication number: 20060260617
Abstract: A tracheostomy is performed using an access device and a separate ventilation device. The access device is introduced through a surgical opening in the tracheal wall and has an anchor which is expanded in situ to hold the access device in place. The ventilation device is introduced through a passage in the access device and has an expandable cuff which is oriented above the access point through the tracheal wall. A concavity in the expandable cuff collects body secretions, and other materials from the oral and nasal cavities and/or gastro-intestinal reflux into the trachea, and the collected secretions are removed by aspiration through a lumen provided in the ventilation device. A one-way valve may be provided in the expandable cuff in order to permit exhalation through the larynx to assist in speech.
