  • Publication number: 20190333496
Abstract: A system that comprises at least one hardware processor, which is configured to: receive a digital image of a scene; analyze the image to identify one or more objects appearing in the image; and for each identified object: (i) determine values for a plurality of physical attributes of the respective identified object, (ii) synthesize a vocalized verbal description of the respective identified object, wherein at least some of the values of said plurality of physical attributes are expressed by non-verbal audio parameters of the synthesized vocalized verbal description, and (iii) output said synthesized vocalized verbal description through a loudspeaker or an earphone.

  • Patent number: 9579236
Abstract: A method of representing visual images by alternative senses is provided herein. The method includes the following stages: obtaining an image of an environment having a background and physical objects distinguishable from the background; slicing the image into a plurality of slices; identifying, for each slice at a time, and slice by slice in a specified order, if at least a portion of the physical objects being contained within the slice; applying, in the specified order, a conversion function to each identified portion of the physical objects for generating a sound or tactile object-dependent signal; associating a sound or tactile location-dependent signal unique for each slice; superpositioning, in the specified order, each object-dependent signal with a respective location-dependent signal for creating a combined object-location signal; and outputting the combined object-location signal to a user via an interface in a form usable for a blind or visually impaired person.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: February 28, 2017
Assignee: Yissum Research Development Company of The Hebrew University of Jerusalem LTD.

  • Publication number: 20150112237
Abstract: A system for both rehabilitating vision related neural tissue and augmenting vision perception with higher resolution and color information is provided herein. Both rehabilitation and augmentation are achieved by providing direct neural stimulation and at the same time an auditory/tactile signal that serves as an explanatory signal aiding the visual perception by easily perceived sensations.
