  • Patent number: 11448384
Abstract: An adjustable lighting apparatus includes a lighting module that is rotatably adjustable about a first rotation axis relative to an adjustable mount. The lighting module may include a heat sink, a driver, and a light source. The adjustable mount may include a base structure, a retainer, a shield, and a secondary shield. A trim may also be coupled to the adjustable mount. In some implementations, the lighting module translates along a first translation axis defined by the adjustable mount while rotating about the first rotation axis in order to reorient the light source while reducing shading losses caused by the adjustable mount. Openings in the base structure and the shield may be substantially covered at all rotational positions of the lighting module using a combination of the shield, the trim, the heat sink, and the secondary shield, thus eliminating the need for an additional enclosure.

  • Patent number: 11391442
Abstract: A recessed lighting system includes multiple components formed from a polymer to reduce the number of components in the system, lower the cost of manufacture, and simplify the installation of the recessed lighting system. In one example, a recessed lighting system includes a housing formed from a polymer, a hanger bar assembly, a light module, and a trim. A yoke may be installed into the housing to provide greater accessibility to mount the light module and/or trim to the housing. A partition plate may be installed to push back wires/cables disposed in the housing such that the cavity of the housing is divided into a wiring compartment containing the wires/cables and a lighting compartment containing the light module and the trim. A hanger bar assembly may also be coupled to the housing to couple the recessed lighting system to a building structure (e.g., a T-bar, a joist, a stud).

  • Publication number: 20220128222
Abstract: A hybrid optic includes a folded optical element with an outer reflective surface, an output surface, and a hollow core comprising a sidewall, a core output surface, and a core input opening through which light emitted by a light source enters the hollow core. A reflector element, coupled to the folded optical element, receives light from the light source, reflects a portion of the light into the hollow core and directly transmits the remaining portion of the light into the hollow core. To reduce the appearance of non-uniformities in the output light, the reflector element is diffuse and white, portions of the folded optical element are diffusely reflective, and/or a glare control diffuser is disposed on the output surface to disperse light transmitted through the core output surface of the hollow core. In this manner, the light coupling efficiency of the hybrid optic is enhanced without producing structured light.

  • Patent number: 11306903
Abstract: A housing assembly for a recessed lighting system includes a housing with integrally formed cable routing features, mounting features, and alignment features. The integration of multiple features into the housing is enabled by forming the housing from a polymer using an injection molding process instead of sheet metal. For a new construction installation, the housing includes integrally formed bar hanger holders to support and guide bar hangers for installation onto two or more support structures, nail-in features for installation onto a single support structure, and one or more alignment features to position the housing against the single support structure when the nail-in features are used for installation. For a remodel installation, the housing includes a flange to abut a bottom surface of a ceiling and one or more spring clips mounted to the housing to abut a top surface of the ceiling.

  • Publication number: 20220082233
Abstract: A lighting module includes a heat sink with a sidewall and a partition defining two cavities, a LED light source disposed in one cavity to emit light, a driver module disposed in the other cavity with driver circuitry to provide electrical power to the light source, and an optical assembly to provide a desired emission profile. The optical assembly is field-changeable and includes a cover lens with snap-fit connectors to facilitate removal and replacement. The optical assembly further includes either a reflector coupled to the cover lens or an optical lens coupled to the heat sink via an optic holder. In some examples, the driver circuitry facilitates dimming of the light source. The heat sink also dissipates heat generated by the light source and the driver circuitry to maintain desired operating temperatures and thereby facilitate increased light output.

  • Patent number: 11231154
Abstract: A bar hanger assembly is used to couple a housing to a support structure. The bar hanger assembly may include a bar hanger holder to mechanically couple the bar hanger assembly to the housing, such as a junction box, a can housing, or a frame. The bar hanger holder may define a channel to mechanically guide and support a pair of bar hangers. The bar hangers may be mechanically coupled together in a telescoping manner such that the first bar hanger is slidably adjustable with respect to the second bar hanger. The bar hanger holder and each bar hanger may physically contact one another and, in some instances, generate a compressive force to substantially reduce unwanted play. Each bar hanger may include a bar hanger head to couple the bar hanger assembly to various types of support structures, such as a T-bar, a stud, a joist, or a frame.

  • Publication number: 20220018523
Abstract: A housing assembly includes a housing to support one or more components of a lighting system or an electrical system, a caddy-type bar hanger assembly to facilitate installation onto support structures in the environment, and one or more bar hanger holders or a pan frame to couple the bar hanger assembly to the housing. In particular, the bar hanger assembly includes a crossmember with mounting features to facilitate installation onto a wood/metal joist or stud, a T-bar, a hat channel, and a metal frame. The crossmember is formed as a unitary component separate from the bar hangers, thus simplifying manufacture by enabling fabrication using conventional sheet metal processes and enabling different housing assemblies to be assembled using one or more of the same components to accommodate housings with different shapes and sizes. The housing assembly may also include support for a junction box and an emergency ballast.

  • Patent number: 10989390
Abstract: A hybrid lens collimates light emitted by a light source via refraction and reflection. A folded optic element of the lens comprises an outer reflective surface, a lens output surface, and a hollow core comprising a sidewall having a curved profile, a core output boundary, and a core input opening through which the light emitted by the light source enters the hollow core. A reflector of the lens receives the light emitted by the light source, reflects a first portion of the light into the hollow core of the folded optic element, and directly transmits a second portion of the light into the hollow core without reflection by the reflector. In one example, the lens output surface has a diameter of 65 millimeters, the lens has a thickness (between the light source and the lens output surface) of about 13.5 millimeters and provides substantially collimated light with a beam divergence angle of 12 degrees or less.
