Abstract: An implantable bone plate for use with a plurality of attachment screws for treating a fracture of a bone in a mammalian body is provided. The implantable bone plate includes an elongate body extending along a longitudinal axis and having substantially parallel outer and inner surfaces. A plurality of holes is spaced longitudinally along the elongate body and extended between the first and second surfaces. The plurality of holes is adapted to receive the plurality of attachment screws. The inner surface of the elongate body is provided with at least one recess for receiving an eluting material that treats the mammalian body after implantation of the elongate body in the mammalian body. Additionally, the elongate body is provided with at least one access hole extending through the outer surface to the at least one recess for permitting introduction of the eluting material into the at least one recess.

Abstract: A bone fastening assembly for use with a screw and including a bone plate and a bushing having a bore adapted for receiving the screw. The bone plate has a substantially planar portion and is provided with a hole in the portion for receiving the bushing. The portion of the bone plate and the bushing are cooperatively configured for providing pivotal movement of the bushing within the hole about a pivot axis and restricting the pivot axis to a plane extending in the portion of the bone plate. A new bone attachment screw for use with the bone fastening assembly is provided.
