    Abstract: A method for SIP presence server failover, the method including setting an expiration time of a SIP application session on a first SIP server having a first SIP presence server to match the expiration time of a SIP request that is associated with the SIP application session, setting a SIP request attribute set representing a plurality of attributes of the SIP request, replicating the SIP application session together with the attribute set to a second SIP server having a second SIP presence server, migrating the SIP application session to the second SIP server for activation thereat, detecting an event indicating that the SIP application session has been migrated, and upon detection of the event, reestablishing at the second SIP presence server the SIP request associated with the SIP application session and using the attribute set.

    Abstract: Mechanisms for burst traffic smoothing for Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) processing elements are provided. A dispatch queue management engine determines whether a received packet is a TCP or UDP packet. If the packet is a TCP packet, the packet is automatically added to the dispatch queue. If the packet is a UDP packet, a value for a drop function ƒ is generated and a random or pseudo-random number r is generated. If r has a predetermined relationship to ƒ, then the UDP packet is added to the dispatch queue, otherwise the UDP packet is discarded. The value for ƒ is based on the current dispatch queue load, the network quality, the retransmission rate, and the allowable drop rate. Thus, the determination as to whether to drop UDP packets or not is configurable by an administrator and also adaptable to the current network and dispatch queue conditions.

The system includes a plurality of first servers for processing a first and a second message. The system also includes a plurality of second servers, which may include a mapping/correlating function for receiving the first message from a client and sending the first message to the plurality of first servers based on associating the first message with a resource. The second message received from the plurality of first servers is sent to the client based on stored routing information associated with the client, whereby the stored routing information resides within the plurality of second servers.
