  • Publication number: 20090260080
Abstract: The subject application is directed to a system and method for verification of document processing device security by monitoring of state transitions. State data is first acquired corresponding to a monitored sequence of states entered by a document processing device during operations and stored in an associated data storage. Authenticity data is thereafter generated representing the authenticity of the stored state data. State template data is then stored in the associated data storage corresponding to at least one acceptable sequence of states. Destination data is also stored in the associated data storage representing at least one preselected notification destination. A comparison is then performed of the acquired state data and the template state data. Notification data is then output based upon the result of the comparison of the state data and the state template data.

  • Patent number: 7587045
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a system and method for secure transmission of electronic document data on a network. The method begins with the receipt of user identification data associated with the identity of a user of document processing devices on the associated network. A password key, composed of a first share and a second share, is then generated from the user identification data. The first share is then communicated to an associated storage area. Electronic document data is then received, and an encryption key is randomly generated. The electronic document data is then encrypted using the encryption key. The second share is then appended to the encrypted electronic document and the combined data is communicated to an associated document processing device.

  • Publication number: 20090217372
Abstract: A preset security level system and a method for utilizing the preset security level system. The system includes a plurality of security levels, each of which enables a different level of security. Each of the security levels has associated therewith security features, such that low security level features are associated with a low security level, etc. The system and method enable a system administrator to select a desired security level, which selection automatically results in the activation of the associated security features, rather than manually activate each desired security feature.

  • Publication number: 20090210695
Abstract: The subject application is directed to securely communicating electronic documents to an associated document processing device. User identification data inclusive of a user credential is received from a user with a document processing request having one or more electronic documents. Page job language information is generated for output of the request by a document processing device. A seed value is received in accordance with the user credential and used to generate a random number. Each document is encrypted using the random number. The encrypted data and page language information are communicated to the document processing device and stored in association with user identification. Upon receipt of user login data a listing of requests is displayed. The seed value is retrieved from user credentials for generation of a random number. Selected electronic documents are decrypted via the random number and output in accordance with the associated page job language information.

  • Publication number: 20090138870
Abstract: The subject application is directed to a system and method for providing a subscription service wherein a remote host enables the automatic receipt at a customer site of the most recent updates, patches, or fixes for services the customer site is running. The remote host uses a secured private port to transfer the updates to the subscribed systems. A remote host server searches an update database for updates of the services from a list configured by an administrator. The host server then downloads the updates and notifies the administrator that an update is available. An update script is subsequently generated, allowing the update to be pushed to a subscribing system. The host server the searches a listing of subscribing systems to determine which subscribing systems run a service for which an update is available. The host server, through a private port, uploads the content to the subscribing system automatically.

  • Publication number: 20090119755
Abstract: The subject application is directed to a system and method for controlling access to a document processing device based on roles assigned to user groups. Each group of users has certain functions for which they are authorized to use a document processing device. The device determines the group to which the user belongs, and then determines those functions of the device for which the group is authorized. The device then compares the requested function with the authorized functions to determine if the group to which the user belongs is allowed to use the document processing device for the requested function. The document processing device then performs the authorized requested function or denies use of the device for an unauthorized function.

  • Patent number: 7526555
Abstract: A system utilizing a Bluetooth enabled smart card to authenticate a user and provide the user with access to a service. The Bluetooth smart card system is comprised of a server and a client. The server is the component that resides on the device that provides the service to the user. The server initializes the system to receive service requests. Once there is a request, the server establishes a communication channel and reads the user identification from the client. The server determines if it matches user identification from a database. If so, the server then determines if the requested service is supported and then performs the services. The server then determines if there is a need to charge for the service. The server would then get billing information from the card and adds the charge to the credit card of the user.

  • Publication number: 20090103136
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a system and user interface wherein a multifunction copier, equipped with a Universal Serial Bus port, accepts data directly from a USB-Data Storage Device (USB-DSD) for the purpose of printing, e-mailing, and faxing. The system contains a copier containing a computer-controller having at least one USB port interface. The controller has a service that can either be enabled or disabled by a system administrator. The service is capable of performing email, printing and facsimile functions. When a user inserts a USB-DSD into the USB port on the controller, the service presents the user with the three options stated above. Once the user selects the desired function, the service then invokes a document conversion utility, which scans the USB-DSD and displays the supported files found on the DSD. Each desired function will have multiple options for a user to choose.

  • Patent number: 7506160
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a system and method for adding data encryption services to a document processing device. Encryption enablement software, which includes two alternate encryption mechanisms, is received by an associated document processing device. The device then awaits an associated user's selection of an electronic document file to be encrypted and subsequently encrypts the file using one of the available encryption mechanisms. The electronic document file is divided into blocks having a preselected length. An encryption key block containing first and second key portions, is then generated. The electronic data file is then encrypted using the first encryption key portion to form first level encryption data. The first level encryption data is then decrypted using the second encryption key portion to form second level encryption data. The second level encryption data is then encrypted using the first key portion to form a final encrypted electronic document file.

  • Patent number: 7502466
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a system and method for secure communication of electronic documents to a document processing device. A document processing request containing electronic document data is received containing document data in an unencrypted form. A seed value is then received and used to generate a random number. The random number is used to encrypt the electronic document. The seed value, in a header, is transmitted, along with the encrypted electronic document, to a document processing device. The document processing device extracts the seed value from the header and uses the seed value to generate a random number. The encrypted document is then decrypted using the random number generated from the seed value. The document processing device subsequently performs the selected document processing operation on the decrypted electronic document.
