  • Patent number: 12216380
Abstract: A lens system may include a lens having a liquid crystal layer and a driving electrode array disposed on a first side of the liquid crystal layer, the driving electrode array including a plurality of driving zones that are independently operable. The plurality of driving zones may each include a plurality of driving electrodes consecutively arranged along a radial direction extending from a central region of the lens. The lens system may include a controller that is configured to independently operate each of the plurality of driving zones via a separate plurality of bus lines coupled to each of the plurality of driving zones. The controller may be configured to operate at least one of the driving zones based on a gaze direction of the user. Various other devices, systems, and methods are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 12066738
Abstract: A lens system may include a lens having a first electrode electrode layer, a second electrode layer, and a liquid crystal layer disposed between the first electrode layer and the second electrode layer. The lens may be divided into a plurality of lens segments that are concentrically arranged proceeding from a center to a radially outer periphery of the lens. An optical power of a first lens segment of the plurality of lens segments may be greater than an optical power of a second lens segment of the plurality of lens segments disposed radially outward relative to the first lens segment. Various other devices, systems, and methods are also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20240231162
Abstract: A lens system may include a lens and a leakage-reduction element overlapping the lens. The lens may include a driving electrode array, a common electrode, and a lens liquid crystal layer disposed between the driving electrode array and the common electrode. The leakage-reduction element may include a guest-host liquid crystal layer having dye molecules in a liquid crystal solution. A display device may include a display screen, which has a plurality of light emitting elements, and a lens system that receives light emitted from the display screen. Various other devices, systems, and methods are also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20240004107
Abstract: A gradient refractive index (GRIN) lens includes a transparent central disk and transparent annular segments, including central annular segments and peripheral annular segments. The central disk and each annular segment has a continuous optical phase profile at a design wavelength along a radial direction extending outward from a center of the central disk. An optical phase discontinuity is present at the interface between the central disk and the innermost central annular segment and at the interface between each pair of adjacent annular segments. Radial widths of the central annular segments decrease with increasing distance away from the center of the central disk. The peripheral annular segments have optical phase profiles for the design wavelength that are linear or have maximum first derivatives that are constant or become smaller with increasing distance of the peripheral annular segments away from the center of the central disk.
