  • Publication number: 20040267720
Abstract: A query system for structured multimedia content retrieval comprises a query language based on logic formalism for content retrieval. The language includes query constructs and formalisms for specifying different aspects of XML documents and the constructs and formalisms are particularly adapted for spatial, temporal and visual datatypes. Certain critical specification issues in MPEG-7 XML queries are identified. An XML query language with multimedia query constructs is described which is based on a logic formalism, called path predicate calculus. In this path predicate calculus, the atomic logic formulas are element predicates rather than relation predicates in relational calculus. In this path calculus query language, queries in this calculus are equivalent to finding all proofs to existential closure of logical assertions in the form of path predicates that the tree document elements must satisfy.

  • Publication number: 20040194035
Abstract: Systems and methods for automatically extracting form information (document structure, elements, format, etc.) from electronic documents such as raster-based passive documents, and storing such form information in a file in accordance with a predetermined DTD (document type definition).

  • Patent number: 6707932
Abstract: A method for identifying graphical objects in large engineering drawings, comprises the steps of inputting an original image into a computerized system for image processing; pruning the original image to provide a pruned image; inputting a template image; processing the template image to provide a processed template image; and computing matches between the pruned image and the processed template image.

  • Publication number: 20030088825
Abstract: Document processing and understanding can be important for a variety of applications such as office automation, creation of electronic manuals, online documentation and annotation, etc. The first step towards this process can involve the decomposition of a page into separate units describing the text, graphics, pictures etc. Towards that end, a method of page decomposition comprises segmenting an image into a plurality of blocks according to an amount of information contained in each block, classifying each block according to a corresponding frequency spectrum, and refining a classification of each block.

  • Patent number: 6462754
Abstract: A method for authoring video documents includes the steps of inputting video data to be processed, segmenting the video data into shots by identifying breaks between the shots, subdividing the shots into subshots using motion analysis to provide location information for motions of objects of interest, describing boundaries for the objects of interest in the video data such that the objects of interest are represented by the boundaries in the shots and creating an anchorable information unit file based on the boundaries of the objects of interest such that objects of interest are used to identify portions of the video data. A system is also included.

  • Publication number: 20020118379
Abstract: A method for extracting Anchorable Information Units (AIUs), from a Portable Document Format (PDF) file, which may either be created using either an editor or by scanning in documents. The method includes parsing the portable document format document into textual portions and non-text portions, and extracting structure from the textual portions and the non-text portions. The method further includes determining text within textual portions, and text the non-text portions, and hyperlinking a plurality of keywords within the textual portions and non-text portions to a related document.

  • Patent number: 5995659
Abstract: A method for recognizing text in graphical drawings includes creating a binarized representation of a drawing to form an electronic image of pixels. The image is discriminated between text regions and lines in the image by grouping pixels into blocks and comparing blocks with a predetermined format to identify text regions. The lines that remain in the text regions are removed to create text only regions. The text is recognized in the text only regions.
