  • Publication number: 20090220407
Abstract: Disclosed are methods for forming carbon nano-onions. The methods include annealing a carbon nanodiamond starting material in an inert atmosphere. The method can be carried out at ambient pressure. Also disclosed are methods for functionalizing carbon nano-onions. For instance, carbon nano-onions can be functionalized so as to be soluble in aqueous or organic solvents, as desired. Also disclosed are methods for separating mixtures of carbon nano-onions. In particular, mixtures of carbon nano-onions can be separated from one another based upon differences in electrochemical characteristics of the different nano-onions.

  • Patent number: 7583667
Abstract: Techniques for determining a problem location or otherwise characterizing a network comprising a plurality of processing elements, including at least one processing element associated with performance of a packet encapsulation operation of an encapsulation protocol. The packet encapsulation operation is performed on a test packet to generate an encapsulated packet, the test packet having a time to live (TTL) value and an identifier. In conjunction with performance of the packet encapsulation operation, the TTL value and the identifier of the test packet are copied to a header of the encapsulated packet. The encapsulated packet is transmitted, and a determination is made as to whether a reply packet has been received responsive to transmission of the encapsulated packet. The reply packet, if any, is processed to obtain information utilizable in determining the problem location or otherwise characterizing the network.

  • Publication number: 20090213819
Abstract: An access point transmits a beacon signal when a multimode communication device is within a maximum proximity of the access point. A wireless wide area network (WWAN) receiver in the access point monitors a WWAN uplink channel used by the multimode wireless communication device to communicate with a WWAN base station. The access point determines, or at least estimates, a proximity of the multimode communication device to the access point based on a received WWAN uplink signal transmitted by the multimode wireless communication device. If the proximity is less than a proximity threshold, the access point transmits the beacon signal. The beacon signal at least indicates the presence of the access point and, in some circumstances, includes instructions or information to assist in a handoff from the WWAN to the WLAN.

  • Publication number: 20090215046
Abstract: Novel markers for colon cancer that are both sensitive and accurate. These markers are overexpressed in colon cancer specifically, as opposed to normal colon tissue. The measurement of these markers, alone or in combination, in patient samples provides information that the diagnostician can correlate with a probable diagnosis of colon cancer. The markers of the present invention, alone or in combination, show a high degree of differential detection between colon cancer and non-cancerous states.

  • Publication number: 20090215479
Abstract: Messaging Service Plus Context Data. A message of a specified mobile device communications protocol is parsed. The message is analyzed to identify a message data. A signal associated with the message is evaluated to determine a context data. The context data provides a contextual attribute of the message. The message data is algorithmically associated with the context data. Further, the other message includes the message data and the context data. A context enhancement data is determined to enrich a meaning of the context data. The context enhancement data is acquired from a database. The other message may be generated. The other message includes the message data, the context data and context enhancement data.

  • Publication number: 20090217301
Abstract: Computing devices, computer-readable media, and methods are provided for generating and persisting a user identity associated with a client in a client-server network. A request for an identity script, the identity script comprising computer-executable instructions for creating one or more cookies, is sent from a client to a server. A dynamically generated identity script is returned to the client. User identities are persisted by utilizing cache validation to determine whether a new identity script should be generated.

  • Patent number: 7579867
Abstract: Some embodiments provide a method that outputs from a configurable IC a first set of data bits from a trace buffer. Each bit of the first set of data bits is simultaneously generated in the configurable circuits and, in some embodiments, multiple data bits of the first set of data bits do not reach the traced buffer simultaneously. The method also determines a set of relative delays for the first set of data bits and arranges the first set of data bits into a second set of data bits by compensating for the relative delays.

  • Patent number: 7580719
Abstract: A Short Message Service (SMS) enables a sender to send an asynchronous short message (often informal) from his source device to one or more receiving devices that are specified by the sender and represent one or more recipients. The SMS associates with each particular short message specific context information about that particular message (including its originator, recipient, type, reason for sending, and the sending time). The SMS may associate further specific context information it has already about previous messages or previously-established links and patterns, without further input from the sender, and display that associated specific context information to the recipient. By parsing and analyzing the combined asynchronous short message and its associated specific context information, using cultural, linguistic, and reverse-association means, a SMS can provide context-driven support for any social or formal obligation(s) conveyed by an individual short message.

  • Patent number: 7580620
Abstract: A method and system deblurs images acquired of a scene by a camera. A light field acquired of a scene is modulated temporally according to a sequence of ons and offs. An optimal coding pattern is selected. The modulated light field is integrated by a sensor of a camera during an exposure time to generate an encoded input image. The encoded input image is decoded according to a pseudo-inverse of a smearing matrix to produce a decoded output image having a reduced blur.
