Abstract: An apparatus includes a waveguide configured to deliver light to a transducer region. The apparatus also includes a plasmonic transducer that has two metal elements configured as side-by-side plates on a substrate-parallel plane with a gap therebetween. The gap is disposed along the substrate-parallel plane and has an input end disposed proximate the transducer region and an output end. The transducer is configured to provide a surface plasmon-enhanced near-field radiation pattern proximate the output end in response to the light received by the waveguide.

Abstract: A method for optimizing operational settings for a plurality of energy devices includes representing each of the plurality of energy devices in terms of a set of decision variables and operational parameters. The decision variables and operational parameters are constrained based on operational conditions and interrelationship within the plurality of energy devices. A two-tiered model of the plurality of energy devices is generated wherein a top tier of the model represents interaction of various sub-models and a bottom tier of the model includes a set of the sub-models that form the top tier, each sub-model representing detailed operation of the plurality of energy devices. The two-tiered model is optimized to provide either a schedule of operation for the plurality of energy devices or real-time control for the plurality of energy devices.

Abstract: An automated regression testing intermediary configured to accept a first set of automated test instructions from an application testing tool. A data structure comprising predefined fields is configured so when a test instruction is received from the application testing tool, a command will be used to identify at least one field of the data structure that will be populated with a parameter test instruction. A library of generic target automated test instructions is provided. Each generic test instruction has a form and format different from the received test instruction. The intermediary is configured to select generic target automated test instructions from the library and populate selected generic target automated test instructions with parameters obtained from the data structure such that the resulting created target-specific automated test instructions can be used to regression test the application under test.

Abstract: Embodiments are directed to efficiently backing up portions of data and to performing a scoped data recovery. In an embodiment, a computer system preloads data images with data corresponding to various different software applications or operating systems. The computer system chunks the data images, so that each data image is divided into multiple data chunks, and where each data chunk is represented by a hash value. The computer system then receives, from a user, portions of delta data representing data differences between the received user data and the data in the preloaded data images. The computer system also generates a logical backup representation that includes the data chunk hash values for the preloaded data images as well as the delta data received from the user. This logical representation allows restoration of the user's data using only the hash values and the delta data.

Abstract: A system and method for providing preferred language and/or country ordering of search results is described. A search query describing potentially retrievable information provided in a plurality of search result languages and/or countries is received. A search is executed by evaluating the search query against information characteristics maintained in a searchable data repository. At least one preferred language and/or country applicable to search results generated is dynamically determined responsive to the executed search. At least some of the search results are ordered in consideration of the at least one preferred language and/or country.

Abstract: Methods for analysis and classification of tolerant intersections, and corresponding systems and computer-readable mediums. A method includes receiving an object model having a plurality of elements, the elements corresponding to a plurality of points. The method includes receiving a selection of a first element and a second element of the plurality of elements and receiving a tolerance. The method includes analyzing an intersection between the first element and the second element based on the tolerance. The method includes classifying the intersection between the first element and the second element based on the analysis and storing the classification.

Abstract: Methods, compositions and devices relate to photovoltaic cells having a photoactive layer and constituents synthesized and utilized for the photoactive layer. The photovoltaic cells incorporate photoactive materials produced from dyads formed into an initial layer and then thermally cleaved to provide the photoactive layer. Cleavage of the dyads, such as synthesized fullerene anthracen-2-ylmethyl 3-(thiophen-3-yl) acetate dyads, or polymers of the dyads into separate molecules providing donors and acceptors facilitates in obtaining the photovoltaic cells with desired arrangement and interspacing of the donors and the acceptors relative to one another.

Abstract: A method of calibration including placing an instrument on an arbitrary point and at an arbitrary rotational orientation on an ultrasonic probe, obtaining spatial coordinates of the instrument, obtaining spatial coordinates of three points on an external surface of the ultrasonic probe, and using the three points to define an ultrasonic image plane, obtaining spatial coordinates of a set of landmarks which have a known spatial relationship to the ultrasonic image plane, these landmarks defining a direction in which the ultrasonic probe is directed within the ultrasonic image plane, and obtaining spatial coordinates of a front point on a front facing surface of the ultrasonic probe, the front facing surface having a known relation with a reference axis of a scanning plane of the ultrasonic probe that defines where an ultrasonic image starts within the ultrasonic image plane.

Abstract: Methods, devices, and systems for creating and using a trusted host list for Transport Layer Security (TLS) sessions are provided. The proposed solutions described herein provide a mechanism of specifying authorization policy for TLS sessions where such authorization was traditionally implied by the possession of a certificate issued by a mutually trusted third party. The proposed solutions also provide for wildcard use and regular expression matching to simplify administration of the trusted host list.

Abstract: An arrangement of interleavers allocates bits from an input symbol across sub-symbols transmitted via sub-carriers of multiple orthogonal frequency division multiplex (OFDM) carriers. The input bits are allocated in a fashion to provide separation across subcarriers, and rotation of sub-symbols across the OFDM carriers provides additional robustness in the present of signal path impairments.

Abstract: An exemplary method for selecting one of a plurality of systems on a multi-mode device capable of communicating on a first air interface technology and a second air interface technology is disclosed. Initially, a carrier input associated with one of the first and second air interface technologies is received. The carrier input typically defines at least one system selection event. Next, a first network acquisition attempt of the other one of the first and second air interface technologies is triggered responsive to the system selection event. The results of the first network acquisition attempt are determined and stored, and subsequently used for subsequent system selection determinations between the first and second air interface technologies.

Abstract: Apparatus and methods for power control for mitigation or control of interference in a wireless communications environment. Control techniques can consider the effect of interference on an access point and the access point can identify interfering wireless terminals and cause a message to be sent to a controlling access point of the interfering wireless terminal to cause the uplink power of the interfering wireless terminal to be adjusted.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method of making a composite sheet. A plurality of layers is first assembled, each layer being comprised of an untreated, unidirectional array of strands. The assembled layers are then placed adjacent one another to form an assembled sheet, with adjacent layers being in a non-parallel orientation, and without any of the layers having been treated with a matrix or binding component. The assembled sheet is then impregnated with a matrix component, which comprises a binding component and may also comprise a radiation-absorbing component.

Abstract: A system, method, and computer program product are provided for determining a level of importance of an entity. In use, an identifier of an entity is identified. Additionally, at least one source publishing entity information is searched for the identifier to determine at least one source publishing information associated with the entity. Further, the information associated with the entity is identified from the at least one source publishing the information associated with the entity. Still yet, the information is scored utilizing at least one predefined algorithm to generate at least one score, each score generated for a different one of the at least one predefined algorithm. Moreover, a value indicative of a level of importance of the entity is calculated, utilizing the at least one score.

Abstract: A computer is programmed to compress data of a database in response to database modification language (DML) statements generated by on-line transaction processing (OLTP) systems. In several embodiments, data that is initially added to a database block is left uncompressed until a predetermined condition is satisfied, which happens infrequently (relative to OLTP transactions on the block). When satisfied, the computer automatically compresses all uncompressed data in the block, which increases the amount of unused space in the block. New data is thereafter added uncompressed to the partially compressed block, until satisfaction of a predetermined condition whereby the partially compressed block is again compressed, i.e. re-compressed. Adding of new data to a partially compressed block and its compression are repeated unless another predetermined condition is met, in response to which the block is not further re-compressed, thereby to recognize a limit on the benefit from compression.

Abstract: A mailer intermediate, foldable into postcard size, includes a generally rectangular sheet of card stock having first and second side edges, first and second end edges, and first and second faces. A fold line extends substantially transverse to the side edges and substantially bisecting them, and dividing the sheet into first and second portions. An adhesive pattern on the first face of the sheet, adjacent at least one of the first and second end edges, secures the first and second portions together adjacent the first and second end edges. An obscuring coating and a camouflage image are provided on the first face of the sheet. Variable indicia are printed on the obscuring coating, and are not legible when viewed by an observer who separates the first and second portions while the first and second portions remain secured together adjacent the first and second end edges. The obscuring coating may comprise a multi-layer, thermochromic coating.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for preventing data leakage facilitated by steganography is provided. In one embodiment, the method for preventing data leakage caused by steganography without perceptual quality degradation comprises processing content being transmitted from a computer, wherein the content comprises steganographic data; and before the transmission, modifying the steganographic data to corrupt hidden information within the content without perceptual quality degradation.

Abstract: A network protocol unit interface is described that uses a message engine to transfer contents of received network protocol units in message segments to a destination message engine. The network protocol unit interface uses a message engine to receive messages whose content is to be transmitted in network protocol units. A message engine transmits message segments to a destination message engine without the message engine transmitter and receiver sharing memory space. In addition, the transmitter message engine can transmit message segments to a receiver message engine by use of a virtual address associated with the receiver message and a queue identifier, as opposed to a memory address.
