  • Publication number: 20140112971
Abstract: The present invention describes an orally administered edible product designed to provide a health benefit in a delivery formulation that will increase ease of use and thus lead to increased compliance and consumption to promote human health and wellness. The present invention provides an enhanced oral delivery method by developing edible products that can be ingested like food, are designed to taste like food not medicine, provide optimal absorption of lipophilic ingredients and allow for the delivery of the equivalent of multiple capsules in a single oral “dose” thus providing a superior method for the consumption of plant-based products.

  • Publication number: 20030230313
Abstract: An aid in the percutaneous navigation through chronic total occlusions by imaging of the vasa vasorum is provided. A cavity is established in a vessel proximal to the occlusion of interest. Once the cavity is established, fluid is introduced into the cavity. The fluid is introduced under a pressure that is sufficient enough to drive the fluid into the vasa vasorum that is accessible from the cavity. An image is taken with an imaging means of the fluid filled cavity and vasa vasorum. This image is used as a visual aid for a physician to visualize the path/curvature of the vessel. With this visualization, the physician would be able to navigate a medical instrument through an occlusion. In addition, this visualization would aid the physician to open the occlusion and therewith promote blood flow in vessel, for instance, by expanding open, stenting open, or cutting away part of the occlusion.

  • Publication number: 20020099005
Abstract: In the present invention we describe a vehicle for the transport of biologically active or therapeutic agents into organisms, such as human beings. The vehicle described in the present invention comprises mucin, wherein said mucin is present in a natural or modified form. The mucin component of the vehicle, as described in the present invention, serves to enhance the transport of biologically active agents, such as therapeutic agents into living organisms; to control and/or improve the delivery of biologically active agents to cells, tissues, organs or organelles; to increase the level of specificity in targeting particular cells or cells types; and/or, to enhance the activity of such therapeutic agents once they enter an organism.

  • Publication number: 20020090721
Abstract: In this invention we describe a mucin-containing delivery vehicle for the transport of biomolecules. This vehicle is used to carry and deliver biomolecules such as DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid), RNA (ribonucleic acid), PNA (peptide nucleic acid), polynucleotides, proteins, peptides, lipids, glycoproteins, glycolipids, carbohydrates or a combination of these biomolecules into organisms, cells and interstitial spaces in organisms. The delivery vehicle described in the present invention is comprised of a mucin component, which consists of any mucin or mucin-like moieties and of biomolecules of the same type or of different types. The mucin component of the biomolecules transport vehicle serves to enhance the process of biomolecules transport and delivery.

  • Patent number: 6416716
Abstract: The present invention relates to a novel device for small sample preparation using tubes and columns, such as capillaries or pipette tips, in which particles of a separation medium, such as particles of a chromatography material used for sample preparation, are directly embedded in the solid material composing the tubes or columns. Most small sample preparation methods currently available cannot prevent sample loss and they are not well suited for small sample volumes. The present invention minimizes sample loss and is well suited for samples with volumes in nanoliters. In the invention described herein, the desired sample, such as a sample composed of biomolecules, is brought in contact with particles of the separation medium embedded on the surface of the device comprised of tubes and columns, according to the present invention.

  • Patent number: 6103195
Abstract: This invention relates to micro volume spin columns used for the preparation and purification of small chemical and/or biological samples by centrifugation. The present invention relates to the use of the conventional luer lock fitting in micro volume spin columns. This invention also relates to multi-spin column systems based on joining two or more spin columns by their ends or by combining different filtration or ultra-filtration membranes with spin columns.
