  • Patent number: 6592829
Abstract: A system for recovering absorbate such as carbon dioxide from an oxygen containing mixture wherein carbon dioxide is concentrated in an alkanolamine containing absorption fluid, oxygen is separated from the absorption fluid, the resulting fluid is heated, and carbon dioxide is steam stripped from the absorption fluid and recovered.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 31, 2001
Date of Patent: July 15, 2003
    Assignee: Praxair Technology, Inc.
    Inventors: Shrikar Chakravarti, Amitabh Gupta
  • Patent number: 6497852
Abstract: Carbon dioxide is recovered from a feed stream whose pressure is up to 30 psia by preferentially absorbing carbon dioxide from said feed stream into a liquid absorbent fluid, pressurizing and heating the resulting stream to a pressure sufficient to enable the stream to reach the top of the stripper at a pressure of 35 psia or greater, and stripping carbon dioxide from said stream in a stripper operating at a pressure of 35 psia or greater and recovering from said stripper a gaseous carbon dioxide product stream having a pressure of 35 psia or greater.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 22, 2000
Date of Patent: December 24, 2002
    Inventors: Shrikar Chakravarti, Amitabh Gupta
  • Publication number: 20020150522
Abstract: Disclosed are a carbon dioxide purification process and apparatus including (i) an adsorbing step for removing a predetermined amount of hydrocarbons from a carbon dioxide feed gas to reduce the caloric value of the feed stream, and (ii) a catalytic oxidation step located downstream of the adsorbing step for removing residual hydrocarbons from the feed gas by catalytic oxidation.

  • Publication number: 20020081256
Abstract: Disclosed is process for recovering carbon dioxide, comprising (A) providing a gaseous feed stream comprising carbon dioxide, wherein the pressure of said feed stream is up to 30 psia; (B) preferentially absorbing carbon dioxide from said feed stream into a liquid absorbent fluid to form a carbon dioxide enriched liquid absorbent stream; (C) in any sequence or simultaneously, pressurizing said carbon dioxide enriched liquid absorbent stream to a pressure sufficient to enable the stream to reach the top of the stripper at a pressure of 35 psia or greater, and heating the carbon dioxide enriched liquid absorbent stream to obtain a heated carbon dioxide enriched liquid absorbent stream; and (D) stripping carbon dioxide from said carbon dioxide enriched liquid absorbent stream in a stripper operating at a pressure of 35 psia or greater and recovering from said stripper a gaseous carbon dioxide product stream having a pressure of 35 psia or greater.

  • Patent number: 6174506
Abstract: A process for recovering carbon dioxide from a gas containing both carbon dioxide and oxygen wherein a carbon dioxide and oxygen containing gas is first contacted with an alkanolamine solution to produce an alkanolamine loaded with carbon dioxide and oxygen, the oxygen is separated from the absorption solution, such as by stripping with a scavenging gas, such as the carbon dioxide containing fluid obtained from the separation of carbon dioxide from the alkanolamine solution or nitrogen, prior to any heating of the absorption solution, and carbon dioxide is steam stripped from the absorption solution and recovered. By stripping the oxygen out of the alkanolamine solution, oxidative degradation of the alkanolamine can be reduced.
