Publication number: 20240384632Abstract: Example computer-implemented methods and systems for gas and water breakthrough detection in producing wells are disclosed. One example computer-implemented method includes receiving flow rate measurement data of produced gas and produced oil of a producing well in a subsurface reservoir. Composition measurement data of the produced gas and the produced oil are received. An occurrence of a producing well breakthrough of gas injected into the subsurface reservoir from one or more injection wells is detected based on the received flow rate measurement data and the received composition measurement data. Oil recovery from the producing well is enhanced based on the detected occurrence of the producing well breakthrough of the injected gas.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 16, 2023Publication date: November 21, 2024Inventors: Ammal F. Patent number: 12000247Abstract: A production well has nested casings including a first production casing and a first production tubing installed within the first production casing, which extends from a surface to a depth within the wellbore. Before implementing a gas-lift operation in the production well, the first production tubing is removed. A second production casing is lowered within the first production casing. The second production casing has a smaller outer diameter than an inner diameter of the first production casing. From the surface of the wellbore to the depth within the wellbore to which the second production casing extends, the inner diameter of the second production casing is expanded until an outer wall of the second production casing forms a gas-tight seal with an inner wall of the first production casing.Type: GrantFiled: April 27, 2022Date of Patent: June 4, 2024Assignee: Saudi Arabian Oil CompanyInventors: Ammal F. Publication number: 20230383633Abstract: A method including receiving modeling data, wherein the modeling data includes field instrument data and associated gas flow rate data for a first plurality of wells. The method further includes splitting the modeling data into a train set, a validation set, and a test set and pre-processing the modeling data. The method further includes selecting a machine-learned model and architecture and training the machine-learned model to predict gas flow rates from the pre-processed modeling data using the training set. The method further includes using the machine-learned model to predict gas flow rates using real-time field instrument data from a second plurality of wells, wherein the real-time field instrument data has been pre-processed similarly to the modeling data.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 27, 2022Publication date: November 30, 2023Applicant: SAUDI ARABIAN OIL COMPANYInventors: Ammal F. Publication number: 20230273063Abstract: Disclosed are methods, systems, and computer-readable medium to perform operations including: calculating a total gas flow rate in a testing trap, where the total gas flow rate includes a first gas flow rate in a liquid leg of the testing trap and a second gas flow rate in a gas leg of the testing trap; calculating a total oil flow rate in the testing trap, where the total oil flow rate includes a first oil flow rate in the liquid leg and a second oil rate in the gas leg; comparing the total gas flow rate and the total oil flow rate to a measured gas flow rate and a measured oil flow rate respectively, where the measured gas flow rate and the measured gas flow rate are measured by a multiphase flow meter; and determining, based on the comparison, whether the multiphase flow meter is calibrated.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 28, 2022Publication date: August 31, 2023Inventors: Ammal F. Patent number: 11629572Abstract: A surface safety valve for a well system includes a main valve body with a central bore through it. The main valve body has a centerline axis and is configured to be connected at a surface location above a surface of the Earth to a surface assembly of the well system and to receive through the central bore a flow of wellbore fluid from a subterranean zone conveyed by a production tubing. A gate is positioned within the main valve body and is configured to move from an open position in which the gate does not block flow of wellbore fluid through the central bore to a closed position in which the gate blocks flow of wellbore fluid through the central bore. The gate travels from the open position to the closed position along a gate movement axis perpendicular to the centerline bore axis. The gate includes a gate front end positioned on a first side of the centerline bore axis and a gate back end positioned on a second side of the centerline bore axis opposite the first side.Type: GrantFiled: August 12, 2021Date of Patent: April 18, 2023Assignee: Saudi Arabian Oil CompanyInventors: Hamad Al-Marri, James Arukhe, Ammal F. Patent number: 7661480Abstract: A method for rupturing a glass disc in a well completion tool located downhole in a section of production tubing includes providing a wellhead isolation tool, or tree saver, to isolate the wellhead Christmas tree, adding a pressurized fluid to the tubing/casing annulus and pumping a disc rupturing fluid into the production tubing via the tree saver until the disc is ruptured. Following rupture, the pump can be rapidly stopped, or slowed, and started to create a water hammer effect that removes any glass shards remaining in the disc holder.Type: GrantFiled: April 2, 2008Date of Patent: February 16, 2010Assignee: Saudi Arabian Oil CompanyInventor: Ammal F.
