  • Publication number: 20060239873
Abstract: A powder-based double dielectric barrier discharge (DDBD) electrode array for use within a gas phase corona reactor (GPCR) device to be incorporated within a system for air treatment and purification designed to be operational in the production of ozone-enriched air and the disintegration of air-borne pollutants. In DDBD based GPCR systems, the energy density at a given voltage is inversely proportional to the distance between pairs of adjacent electrodes of opposite polarity. There is a significant drop in energy density as spatial separation from a discharge point is increased, such that energy becomes significantly lower even at short distances away from a discharge point. In the multi-electrode crisscross array of the present invention, the geometrical placement of the electrodes increases the efficiency of the system via two parameters, the close proximity of oppositely charged electrodes and the multiplicity of electrodes configuration, that is, crisscross arrays of electrodes.

  • Publication number: 20040256225
Abstract: A carbon-based electrode device and a DDBD system for air purification and the production of ozone. The air treatment system is designed, in one embodiment thereof, to be operational in a double stage cycle involving the production of ozone-enriched air and the disintegration of air-borne pollutants, in a first stage; and the decomposition of residual ozone in the air, in a second stage. The multi-electrode crisscross array of the present invention features geometrical placement of the electrodes in triads to increase the efficiency of the system via two parameters, the close proximity of oppositely charged electrodes and the multiplicity of electrodes configured in triads, that is, crisscross arrays of three.

  • Publication number: 20040076543
Abstract: A system for decontamination and sterilization of harmful contaminated biological and chemical materials, the system including a plurality of double dielectric barrier discharge reactor cores, wherein each of the reactor cores includes a plurality of parallel, spaced-apart electrodes arranged as a plurality of adjacent triads defining a gap region between opposing electrical poles for the passage of contaminated materials therebetween, and a housing unit provided with an inlet and an outlet for passing contaminated materials through the system. When an electric power supply is connected to the electrodes of the plurality of reactor cores, a high electric field and a plurality of multi-directional electrical micro-discharges are generated in the gap region to produce reactive radicals, so that when contaminated materials are passed through the gap region, contaminants are decomposed by the radicals, while other contaminant molecules are broken down by the high electric field.
