  • Patent number: 5759527
Abstract: A single phase hair conditioning composition having improved hair conditioning properties is described which contains, by weight, about 0.8% to 1.4% of a water-soluble nonionic cellulose polymer thickener, about 0.5% to 2.0% of a dipolar solvent such as propylene glycol, about 0.2% to 3.0% of a mono-C12-C22 alkyl, monomethyl ethoxy substituted quaternary ammonium salt conditioning agent, about 0.2% to 2.5% of a C10-C18 alkyl ethoxy methyl carboxylic acid conditioning agent having 1 to 23 ethoxy groups in the molecule and an aqueous medium, said composition being free of water-insoluble alkanol conditioners and of conditioning amounts of silicone conditioners. The mixture of ethoxy substituted quaternary ammonium salt conditioner and ethoxy methyl carboxylic acid conditioner provides enhanced hair conditioning results.

  • Patent number: 5693317
Abstract: Hair rinse compositions, in emulsion or dispersion form, which condition the hair and facilitates setting thereof, includes a hair conditioning and emulsifying cationic compound, a water insoluble acrylic or acrylate polymer and a solvent which is a stabilizing and compatibilizing proportion of the composition comprising a higher aliphatic alcohol and/or alcohol ethoxylate, in an aqueous medium. The cationic compound is a quarternary ammonium salt preferably a higher alkyl trimethyl ammonium chloride and the polymer is preferably an acrylamide acrylate copolymer. Preferably solvents in the compositions are C.sub.9-20 aliphatic alcohols and/or C.sub.9-20 alcohol ethoxylates having less than 2 ethoxy groups per mole. The preferred emulsion, which is normally of the oil-in-water type, preferably includes propylene glycol and a nonionic surfactant, and the aqueous medium is preferably water, or is essentially water. The invention also includes processes for making and using the invented hair rinse compositions.

  • Patent number: 5415857
Abstract: A hair conditioning shampoo, of improved fiber conditioning properties, includes an aminosilicone of the amodimethicone type, of a certain formula, and an aqueous medium for the aminosilicone, which serves as a carrier for it. Preferably, the carrier is an aqueous anionic shampoo medium that also contains a cationic surfactant hair conditioning agent, such as a quaternary ammonium salt, and more preferably it also contains hydrocarbon components, such as microcrystalline wax and petrolatum and/or polyethylene and mineral oil, which promote further improvement in conditioning effects on human hair. The invention is also of hair conditioning processes and combined shampooing and hair conditioning operations, and of processes for manufacturing the invented conditioning shampoos.

  • Patent number: 5348736
Abstract: Liquid fiber-treating and skin-treating compositions include surfactant, water insoluble treating material, water and long chain alcohol or derivative thereof, which stabilizes the liquid so as to allow storage at elevated temperatures, such as those which can be reached during storage in warmer climates, and which also helps to make fiber- and skin-treating materials more substantive to fibers and skin. Among the various types of compositions benefited are shampoos, perfuming shampoos, hair conditioning compositions, hair setting compositions, anti-dandruff preparations, fabric softening compositions, antistatic compositions, detergents, skin cleansers, skin lotions and sunscreens.

  • Patent number: 5346642
Abstract: A fiber conditioning composition, which is preferably a shampoo for human hair, in stable and pearlescent liquid or semi-liquid or gel condition, is an emulsion or dispersion which includes a surfactant, a water insoluble fiber conditioning agent, a long chain saturated primary alcohol or derivative thereof, which stabilizes the emulsion or suspension and makes it pearlescent, and an aqueous medium, which may also contain other components of such fiber conditioning and shampoo compositions. In the preferred shampoos an anionic detergent is present, which is preferably a mixture of higher fatty alcohol sulfate and higher fatty alcohol ethoxylate sulfate, the long chain saturated primary alcohol (or derivative) is of an average of 30 to 40 carbon atoms (ethoxylated such alcohols may also be employed, at least in part) and the water insoluble conditioning agent is a silicone (very preferably a certain type of aminosilicone), a polyethylene, a paraffin, an isoparaffin, a microcrystalline wax, a C.sub.

  • Patent number: 5051250
Abstract: A fiber conditioning composition, especially useful for conditioning human hair on the head, includes a cationic surface active fiber conditioning agent, such as a hair conditioning quanternary ammonium halide, a normally solid and water insoluble poly-lower alkylene, such as polyethylene, and a hydrocarbon solubilizer for such poly-lower alkylene, such as mineral oil, which liquefies it and makes it water dispersible in the presence of the cationic surface active fiber conditioning agent and water, which composition is of a significantly increased fiber conditioning effect compared to control compositions containing the cationic surface active fiber conditioning agent alone. In a preferred form the fiber conditioning composition includes water and anionic synthetic organic detergent, and is a shampoo for human hair.
