  • Patent number: 10885199
Abstract: A pre-boot initialization technique for a computing system allows for encrypting both a manufacturer and original equipment manufacturer firmware routines, as well as handing off data between the manufacturer and original equipment manufacturer firmware routines encrypted with a key provisioned in field programmable fuses with an original equipment manufacturer key. By encrypting the firmware routines and handoff data, security of the pre-boot initialization process is enhanced. Original equipment manufacturer updatable product data may also be encrypted with the original equipment manufacturer key. Additional security may be provided by using trusted input/output capabilities of a trusted execution environment to display information to and receive information from a user. Furthermore, multiple secure phases of configuration may be achieved using wireless credentials exchange components.

  • Publication number: 20190273295
Abstract: Disclosed is a technique for managing the temperature of rechargeable cells. An energy storage device can include a plurality of rechargeable cells disposed within a housing and a material disposed within the housing so as to completely surround each of the rechargeable cells in a particular plane. The material can have a thermal characteristic such that the material remains a solid upon absorbing heat from the rechargeable cells by changing a crystal lattice structure. Intrinsic latent heat properties of the material result in absorption or release of heat to maintain a temperature of a rechargeable cell within a pre-defined temperature range. A regenerative mechanism including a heat pump coil can restore the material to a lower energy crystal lattice structure.

  • Publication number: 20060185960
Abstract: The present invention relates to a drive assembly including an adapter that enables the use of a lightweight backstopping clutch with a driven shaft. The adapter is coupled to the driven shaft for rotation therewith and forms a stub shaft smaller than the driven shaft. The clutch has an inner race that is disposed about the stub shaft and an outer race fixed against rotation so as to allow rotation of the stub shaft and driven shaft in one direction and inhibit rotation in an opposition direction.

  • Patent number: 5744971
Abstract: A probe (1) is used to measure the dielectric properties of rigid or semi-rigid materials (4), for example, works of art. The probe comprises an inner conductor and an outer, coaxial, conductor separated by a layer of insulator e.g. Teflon (TM). The probe is coupled to a network analyzer (11), which provides microwave frequency radiation which is transmitted by the probe onto the surface of the material where it is reflected back from the surface back down the probe to the analyzer, where it is analyzed to give measurements on the dielectric properties of the material. The probe typically has an outside diameter of around 0.86 mm, and because of its size allows measurements to be made, non-invasively, and in real time on small areas of material. The outside diameter can be made of the order of microns by selecting the frequency of the radiation, which allows measurements to be made in a sample of a semi-rigid material e.g. a layer of paint for depth profiling.
