  • Publication number: 20070132865
Abstract: A method of reducing noise in a digital image produced by a digital imaging device, includes producing a luminance and at least one chrominance channel from a full-color digital image with each channel having a plurality of pixels and each such pixel has a value; producing an edge value from neighboring pixels in neighborhoods in the at least one chrominance channel; modifying the pixel value in the chrominance channel with an infinite impulse response filter responsive to the edge value of the corresponding pixel neighborhood to provide a modified chrominance channel; and producing a full-color digital image from the luminance channel and the modified chrominance channel, with reduced noise.

  • Publication number: 20060171566
Abstract: A method for producing a distance map of scene distance values for a digital image captured by a digital camera includes capturing a first digital image of a scene under a first illumination condition, wherein the first digital image includes a plurality of pixels and the scene includes a plurality of scene objects located at different distances from the digital camera, capturing a second digital image of the scene under a second illumination condition that is different from the first illumination condition, and using the first and second digital images to produce a distance map having a plurality of scene distance values, wherein each scene distance value relates to the distance between the digital camera and the corresponding scene object.

  • Publication number: 20060152603
Abstract: A method of enhancing a digital image produced by a digital imaging device, includes using the digital imaging device to capture at least two original digital images of the same scene with each digital image being under two different lighting conditions and producing for each such digital images a plurality of pixels; using the pixel values of at least two of the captured digital images under different lighting conditions to produce difference values; and modifying the pixel values of the original digital image in response to the corresponding difference values.

  • Publication number: 20060056731
Abstract: A method for determining a sharpness predictor for an input digital image includes determining one or more image metrics by analyzing the input digital image; and determining the sharpness predictor from the one or more image metrics.

  • Publication number: 20050248664
Abstract: A method of detecting red eye in a color digital image produced by a digital camera includes using the digital camera to capture two original color digital images of the same scene with the first color digital image being with flash and the second color digital image without flash and producing for each such digital images a plurality of pixels in the same primary-color space having red, green, and blue pixels; and converting the primary-color space for the first and second digital images into the same chrominance channel, wherein the chrominance channel identifies a particular pair of colors and their relative intensity. The method further includes calculating the difference between the chrominance channel of the image captured without flash and the chrominance channel of the image captured with flash; and responding to such differences to locate the position of red eyes within the first color digital image.
