Patent number: 11526520Abstract: An action framework system provides context-based actions in association with a source application. The source application detects selection of a content element presented by the source application. The content element is associated with an application identifier identifying a target application and an action identifier identifying an operation to be executed by the target application on the content element. The target application identified by the application identifier is executed to perform the operation identified by the action identifier on the content element, responsive to detection of the selection of the content element. In one implementation, the source application is a search feature providing different contexts of search results (e.g., from a local file system search, a local application content search, a Web search, a remote application content search).Type: GrantFiled: July 31, 2019Date of Patent: December 13, 2022Assignee: Microsoft Technology Licensing, LLCInventors: Max Glenn Morris, Sashi Raghupathy, Manoj Kumar Biswas, Amy Rambhia, Daniel Oliver, Robert Emmett Kolba, Jr., Sandy Wong

Patent number: 10509829Abstract: A context aware digital assistant supported on devices such as smartphones, tablet computers, wearable computing devices, personal computers (PCs), game consoles, and the like is configured with a natural language interface that enables a user to launch searches for content using contextual references such as time, date, event, location, schedule, activity, contacts, or device. The user can thus use natural language to express the context that is applicable to the sought-after content rather than having to formulate a query that uses a specific syntax. The digital assistant can comprehensively search for the content across applications (i.e., both first and third party applications), devices, and services.Type: GrantFiled: October 5, 2015Date of Patent: December 17, 2019Assignee: MICROSOFT TECHNOLOGY LICENSING, LLCInventors: Amy Rambhia, Harris Syed, Ed Doran

Publication number: 20120278796Abstract: When a device is connected to a computer, many computers are configured to seek a driver for a device (e.g., accessible over a network), install either the driver for the device (if accessible) or a default driver, and terminate the installation process. However, this process may delay access to the device until the driver is fully installed, and may leave a device in an incomplete state through the default driver, even if a driver is subsequently accessible. Instead, when a device is connected, the computer may promptly install a default driver in order to provide rapid access to the device. The computer may then begin and persist in seeking access to a driver library containing a driver for the device, and upon (eventually) retrieving the driver, may replace the default driver with the driver, thereby achieving full functionality of the device through the proper driver without involving the user.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 26, 2011Publication date: November 1, 2012Applicant: Microsoft CorporationInventors: Neil Sandlin, Chibong Chan, Amy Rambhia, Mitsuru Saito
